In response to Latmat's post about harmony, I offer this song as an example of three-part harmony: pages.sbcglobal.net/fbm/PS5/Hold_Me.wmaMy wife, Connie, sings the melody, and Kenny and I sing the harmony (alto and tenor). BP (edit) Song was recorded "live" in church. Sorry about the poor quality.

Connie's singing is so nice, we can overlook some technical concerns.
You should make some decent PS5 recordings at home of public domain hymms or something, and put together a CD at Cafepress. People at your congregation might enjoy having something they can play during the week.

Beautiful piece of work. I remember listening to this in a Windows media file which tends to truncate quaility for less download. Sounds like there is an analog-to-digital conversion problem with the hissing sound. It would be great to do a stereo input /LR from a main mixer board directly into the PS5. P.S. - You need to post more songs...excellent talent. Stan

Sorry about the in the middle of my last post. I put it in just after my name at the bottom and hit the Post button, but it wound up in the middle of my post. Didn't make much sense where it wound up. Stan

Mattl said, Can you say that? You just did. Glad you enjoyed it. Mike, thanks for the kind words about Connie's singing. Yes, I think I'm gonna try a different setup at church. Try to capture some of our music a little better. We will be going to a campmeeting up in the mountains on July 1-4 where we're in charge of all the music. Maybe I can capture some of that "Old Time Campmeeting" music on my PS5. Do you think you guys would like to hear some of that? Collin

Can you share how you're set-up to record live and how the PS5 interfaced with your set-up? As you may know, Funstock is supposed to be a live event, so I am very much interested on how you captured your song live.
Downloading the "Hold Me" WMA for a taste treat.

On a site with so much "pepper", it's refreshing to have some salt. Thanks, I needed that reminder.
It must be VERY special to work together so closely with your family through such an intimate media as music.
Blessings on your upcoming camp meeting.

Can you share how you're set-up to record live and how the PS5 interfaced with your set-up? unfortunately it sounds like a single microphone recording to analog cassette.. what great stuff. it's alot like that southern black church stuff. .(whatsit called help me somebody??) gospel??

HF,
A friend of mine recently bought a Fender Passport 250 which has really good output quaility. It has 8 input channels but only has RCA outputs. Each input channel has its own volume, EQ, and pan controls. It has a left and right speaker that sits on stands (250W worth). His old church had this PA which he did his out door events with and it is very easy to use.
My question would be, can you use a single Y cable (RCA pins to 1/4") to the PS5's line A and then set to "Stereo Input," or would you have to run two 1/8" to 1/4" jacks to line A and line B?

How much you reckon that Passport system costs? Thousands?
I'm afraid that I'm way over my head on all this technical stuff. I'll keep reading people's posts, so I can learn something. Just trying to think ahead to Funstock.
Based on the gear we have now, what are we missing that will enable us to make a half-decent live recording?

"Hold Me" was recorded to analog tape off the "house" mixer board. Then transferred to computer. And finally uploaded to internet. Thus the poor quality with all the conversions.
At the Campmeeting I will try to record some "live" performances by hooking the PS5 to the "tape out" on my mixer.
At church I am going to hook the PS5 directly to the "tape out" of the Mackie mixer board. Should get a cleaner recording and better mix of instruments and vocals.
Glad you all enjoyed the song.
See you all on July 5th after campmeeting.

Stan Remember Stereo Input is only for recording direct to MP3. If you only use one input with 'SD', you'll only get audio on one side. It would be better to leave it at normal, then at least you'll get a mono signal centered in the mix. Running two lines to A & B and then setting it to 'SD' would give you true stereo.

Nice harmonies, I hear there all chords, Not a whole lot of passing tones in the harmonies.
A different application for sure, I think its a lot easier to do them when your looking at some notes.
Thanks for sharing BP, nice singin as well!
