Daytripper[/url] was the first song that we recorded at Funstock '04. The drum track was done beforehand and put on the FTP for the players to practice against. Parts were also preassigned, so everyone knew what they were to do. After multiple takes, we settled on this one. By the end, the neck on Stan's new Strat was smokin', Ronnie, the bass man's fret hand was throbbing, and it was a wonder that Rob could continue to sing, after putting out such a strong effort. But, all faired well, and with this one under our belt, we we're already in a tight groove as a band, and were looking forward to the next one (to be posted a little later today).

I think we had some DT keepers before this one. As Scott said, it took us all about 6 to 8 takes (not ready to throw in the towel though). The overload clip was isolated to the PS5.
The problem was not really as much with the music integrating, as it was with the RCA recording part. It seems that the RECORD OUTs in the mixer were a little stronger for the PS5 input channels than we first thought.
We had the record volume level down under "5" and still got lots of clipping (but with no red light indicator showing on the PS5). Rob brought it down to about "3" and things started recording cleaner after that.
At first, we were trying to isolate which instrument was causing the overload, before discovering recording volume. Everything went relatively smooth after that.

I think this turned out real good guys! For a live recording recording thru the mixer in the Ps5 thats more than decent, How did you guys keep in time with the drums, Did you use the mixer with out any speakers than monitered with powered speakers on the line out of the ps5?? Worked real good, if thats what you did, good stuff! You played well together it had that garage band sound to it! Anywho, good job, Cameron

It's amazingly clear and level for being recorded live. I know the feed we were getting at the time wasn't nearly as crisp as this, but hey, we were on the other side of the ocean after all!
Bring the drums up just a tiny shade more, and add some reverb to put some depth in the vocal and guitar. Good job all around guys. Good job to Ronnie as well for just getting thrown in the deep end (literally). He did okay.

Anywho, good job, Cameron Drums were fed from one PS5 throught the mixer and output in two directions at the same time: 1) over the PA speakers, so we could hear and play along; and 2) directly into a SECOND PS5 for recording purposes. The mixer was powered and the PA speakers were rated 300W. Obviously with practice, the recording and *live* EQ levels could be improved, but as you say, Cameron, not bad for a "garage" band.

HF, you did a really good job on this master mix, considering it was from a submix to begin with.
There is not a whole lot you can do once all the instruments are panned to stereo. You seemed to get the vocals up in the submix, and still keep everything else well seperated and balanced in the final mix.

Outstanding guys ! Really sounds great, Rob's voice is made for covering the Beatles. The overall mix sounds great also. I'd say Funstock '04 was a success. If there is a Funstock '05 I think I'll try to make it ;D

It was great being there, even at a distance. ;D And it was fun having you there, Mike. We really felt your presence (I for one sat up straighter.) Hope the boys kept you filled in at Command Central, serving as your "eyes", if you will?

It was a strange experience to type something, then hear the boys shout it out loud, then you respond into the microphone. An early 21st century form of virtual reality.
