Had to try a song about today's music industry. Kind of a cross between a satire and a calamity.
The MIDI drums sound like banging on trash cans which really started getting to me during the mixing (too late to change now)
I included the lyics cause I know some won't be able to understand them; for what they are worth.
Semi-humorous tune. Stan

I like it! Sometimes a rough approach works well, and it does here. Even the trash can lid drums. I think it's a Song Of The Moment for sure. Production-wise, it seems some of the balances between levels is slightly uneven. The solo for one, doesn't jump up when it should, and stays somewhat hidden in the mix. Another semi-abrupt ending; I'm wondering how it would sound if you repeated the last line, then wound up into a real ending. Hmm.
That aside, it's clever, and I'm afraid I must agree with you for the most part.

hey stan! yea i agree with above comments. reminds me in style/sound of neil, and in fact he has this great song on one of his newer (early 90s i think) cd's that i would love to get down well enough to cover.. its about the same thing.. "send me a songwriter, and make sure he's hungry" i forget the name of the song though but its excellent

In the midi spec, there's a snare drum sound (called Acoustic Snare in my software) that has a lot of buzz in it. I prefer the alternative snare sound (called Electric Snare in my software). It's much more crisp. I redid the midi file I'm using for Bad Bad Leroy Brown to replace the Acoustic Snare with the Electric Snare.
Good song Stan.

Thanks Mike, Matt, and Jim for listening. It was a fun one to mess with. I did a remix to up the solo at the end and EQ the Piano in the MID to come out a little more since it was totally buried. Maybe too much going on again but at least the guitars stayed close to in sync.
PS. Jim, on Leroy, let me know if you want the guitar redone or not. I'd be happy to redo.

Very good Stan - great lyric! Well written commentary about the lack of good new music on the shelves today!
(sorry about the name goof up Stan - I had just been reading something of holzra's, hence the slip-up - I do apologize)

Stan,
I didn't know you were done. Did I miss a message?
I see it in my MMM folder (MMM's back up by the way). Thanks Stan!

You are right Jim.
My son bounced me off the computer just after the FTP for some college work and it slipped my mind. Imagine that.
Sorry for not doing the following up.

Thanks Rob. A little old-fashion style, but fun. I'm thinking about something booming with lots of punch in it on one of the next one. BIAB is starting to tame me down too much. Stan

i was thinking that about biab, and worrying that you were getting too technical, but it appears that you were just getting to grips with the program, cos this recording is rocking, and a million miles from giving the impression that a programmer is behind the scenes. its an infectious recording, just sounds alive! now how the hell do you teach that!! btw the keyboard...is biab? cool stuff fella.
man i hope i can get to recording something i like soon. ive been turning ideas around and developing ideas ...but they just end up collapsing on me...i save all the ideas for later ...but have only just got an idea off the ground...lets see if i still like it next week...

Thing that messes me up is that I have to conquer something in an afternoon, or I'm already bored with it. If I don't get it down on paper, it is totally different by the next day. Almost always: get the melody or chords down and recorded first with a drum or backing track created. Then, I scribble down some lyrics that fit the mood of the song and match the verses, usually trying to sqeeze in some kind of bridge verse to change the flow a little. Refinement & quality are by far the bigest struggle for me. In other words, write a million songs and maybe a couple will turn out. OK. I've noticed a lot more quality in the songs & mixes posted here, especially by the PS5 vetrans, over the past several months. I know that the suggestions and comments have contributed to much of this improvement I've been hearing. I wrote my first song almost exactly 2 yrs. old today. I had done a small amount of analog tape recording before getting the PS5, but never wrote my own music. It's a contagious hobby that I probably won't give up for a while. Stan
