Hi Stan,
You know how I am about simplicity in songwriting and production, so my comments shouldn't surprise you. In each verse, I like the simple guitar riffing that goes on behind the first line of each verse. I can get over the slightly uncomfortable (for me) key modulation going to line 2, but not the drastic change in rhythm. And the cresendo behind line 3 is to me like a ball of confusion that IMO takes away from the impact of the hook line. Better I think to keep it more simple behind the volcal and then lengthen the line 3 instrumental backing on the middle verse with solo guitar building to such a cresendo.
Just my 2 cents of course -- at least you are being productive, unlike me who slept through the better part part of each game I "watched".
Regards, Tom

Thanks Tom for the evaluation and all of the details. I think I lost some focus on the song with the playoffs going on and I also got a new mic (AT3035) that I was playing with. In either case, I agree that its a pretty sloppy mix. I guess the Cowboy's offense must have rubbed off on me.

Yeah ... maybe so. I woke up for the second half of the Cowboy's game and I would have to say that the dropped passes and Romo running for his life would likely distract their fans a bit. Luckily for me I am a 'Skins fan, and so was not so negatively affected Tom

Maybe he (Romo) shouldn't have taken that little excursion with Jessica, before the big game. He seemed distracted, which makes one wonder what he was thinking about.

Heh Tom, at least we are all in the same Division! To be honest when the Skins lost it didn't bother me either. Yeah, all of the distractions before & after ... first Romo's vacation, TO's emotional response after the game, and today it's Wade Phillip's head. The Dallas media will make a reality story about anything that they can stretch, twist, or consume.

I did a remix & repost on this because it does belong more in the grunge vs. rock category. I know it has some pretty busy parts in it but I have gotten decent responses on plays & downloads, so I guess go figure. Not something I'd spend any more time on though.

Reminds me very much of '5:15' by the Who.
I quite like the little riff part, but when the guitar drops out for the second half of the verse (or is it the chorus?), it feels like the whole bottom falls out of the song. The ending annoys me because just as the guitar comes in to duet with the tasty bass licks, the song ends. Huh?
That said, there are some clever things going on in the mix. Parts are crunchy and punch through well. The vocal conveys excitement and the back & forth pan helps. All in all, tho, this is another track that makes you wonder what it would sound like with external production.

Hey Mike, After I said that I'd probably not waste any more time of this, maybe this weekend I'll see if I can fill in those drop outs (which were purposely done to keep things from clogging up or getting overly busy before the chorus).
The panning vocals were actually a mistake. I recorded a dry track and also recorded it through a short delay effect at the same time. It boosted the vocals but it also added the short delay onto the end giving it a panning sound. Interesting.
Thanks for your evaluation Mike. You always give excellent responses. And now, at least, I'm finally putting some endings on my songs... don't know why it's so hard to plan a good ending. I guess it's a good thing I don't write movie scripts, eh.

I didn't even know what grunge was until a couple of weeks ago when my wannabee drummer son and his guitar playing buddy were working on some Nirvana down in the basement. I didn't know who they were either. Sometimes I feel older that at others. Tom

Well you want grunge you got it now... I got off early today so I came home and recorded my tube amp cabinet with 2 condenser mics; one on each side. It really put some spiked-punch in it so there may be too much sonic activity in the song (I'm hearing feedback on the high-end of the track as well). Definitely a different song for sure.

Well now I think I at least got back inside the ball park. Redid vocals on the verses. Anyway, my ears are starting to hurt.

I did a remix on this song yesterday and it has continued to stay ranked in the top 10; peaking at #5 in the Grunge category. This genre is evidently very sparsely populated.
