Stairway denied? Maybe in "Wayne's World" but not in "Stan's World." I didn't realize how difficult this song would be to record until I tried it. But it was a fun Christmas getting to record. Listen if you dare...it separates the men from the boys and I guess I ain't got to high school yet. www.soundclick.com/bands/6/leftbrainedmusic.htmStan

Wow, You mean it wasn't quite as bad as I thought? This forum is too generous. Matt, I got a MID file from the internet to start the idea, so all I did was play a couple of tracks of acoustic guitar and one lead track. Oh yeah to vocals.. It killed most of Christmas afternoon but like Aarron said "It was fun trying." Stan

Hey Matt, I envy your vocals, and I know you have more of a music background than I do. Mine requires vocal masking: reverb, distorsion, etc.
I agree, too many great musicians in the world (but where is their music today?). Just be yourself and practice when you ever find time, and you will continue to evolve... I know this sounds scientific but it was all I could come up with.
If you ever want to attempt another collab just give me a ring, and thanks for listening and comments.

too bad having a musical background doesnt make me play guitar any better hahahhahaha.. oh well maybe it does <shrug> . my buddy who ive taken a couple lessons from says its always like that, its hard to see your own progress in playing. he says to me the other day " do you know how sometimes you hear something but you cant do it with your fingers?" i started laughing . but it reminded me that it takes commitment no matter how good you are/get. and hes been through berkeley and 10 yrs as a professional as much as that allows (meaning its not always enough full time) and he even gets "the feeling" (frustrated)). my mama always told me i could sing but hey whos mama wouldnt say that..oh shoot now im remembering my buddies 2nd wife who laughed at his singing. (shes an ex wife now). anyways getting some more confidence there especially since not smoking (christmas is 6 mos!!!, urge is finally slowly starting to go away.. ) im looking forward to your part on the blues tune eventually when it gets back to me im looking forward to a solo. ok im too talkative tonight time fer bed party on garth! waynes world waynes world.. party time, excellent

Stan, Stairway to Heaven will always be a head turner for me. I really like the formula. Slow quiet beginning that gradually builds and climaxes with driving rock. Also it was a hit when I was in highschool. And you know how the music of our highschool years seems to hold a special spot in the playlists of our brains . Sounds like you had fun with this one. Whatcha gunna have for us tomorrow? Jim

Jim,
When this song came out I was in the Army (drafted not volunteer), and thought that rock couldn't get any better than this. At that time most of my money went into albums because there were so many great groups around 73-74, and I had plenty of time to listen. I only new a few basic chords on the guitar: G, C, D, so at that time I didn't play much guitar, just loved Rock-in-Roll.
I have no clue as to whats tomorrow. Got any songs of interest?

Hey, there's a new angle for the PS5UG. The Request Board, or... I can play that song in 4 notes!

Does this seem slightly faster than the original? Or is it me? I really like the keyboard part in the first part - that should come up just a tad. The idea of the reverb on the vocal is good, maybe just a tiny bit less? It sounds very far removed from the instruments. Bass & drums in the end bit seem a bit restrained, but that's what happens sometimes with SMFs. Typical superb Stan guitar throughout, of course.

Mike, Thanks for listening to it.
The tempo was definitely faster than the original for a fact. I've heard to song so many times I could instantly tell. I had 2 versions of MID to choose from but I went with this one because it was a better backing and the drums sounded much better.
Classic rock seems to be where I keep migrating to with recording. I hope HF has some "Classic Rock" ideas in his head for another collab project one of these days.
