Lads new song: Jingle . practicing the cut and paste functions and also experimenting with the panning. if you fancy 2 mins of rock and roll then have a listen. i had a lot of fun with this...even tried doing "lead"?!! well i put my left hand near the body of the guitar and hoped for the best. ;D Later Rob

Sounds interesting, Some of the lead sounds cool but really busy, I would also like some more contrast in your music, Exspecially with your singing theres so much vocal distortion that I think its taking away from the song, I suggest using it to color parts of the melody not the entire thing, It does get tiring quite quickly. Dont take me too serious though Cool, the edit functions are quite nice ehh? Im really glad I learned how to use them now it would have made life alot easier!

i know exactly what you mean about the contrast, busyness, distortion...i will do something about it...but you know cam, this music thing isnt always about writing songs for me! this one was definitely just a release! i just wanted to make a lot of noise and stomp around the house. But for you i will make some time soon to write a well arranged, balanced...easier on the ear song!

aww shucks! you sweet talker you!
But youre not ripping on me! you hit on exactly the weak points of the effort...from a songwriters perspective...and i appreciate your considered (and perceptive) critique....and i do have to make an effort in the direction that you suggest.
thanks buddy. ;D

Valid points on both sides - I'm all for intelligent, well-made music, but then again, these instruments do get loud, don't they? My biggest critical remark about this song is that the vocals are just hard to hear. Nothing a little remixing wouldn't fix. Maybe throw in a horn section too! ;D I'm a firm believer that you can't keep a good song down; I'd always rather hear a lousy demo of a great song than a polished multi-track master of a song that should never have been finished. Sounds like fun, Rob. Thumbs up.

mike, let me have a go at cleaning up the mix, fortunately i recorded one of the vocal tracks clean so i have the option of producing a completely tidy undistorted mix....like a "michael bolton mix" if you will!! ;D
and yeah, it was so much fun! its still making me grin now!

deep down...michael bolton? just a little!!! ;D ;D
i was listening to "jingle" last night and messing around with the mix. reduced the guitar and got the sound i think you and mike wanted. but then i started messing around with the song style in the tone generator, and cos i put the chords in i could change the style to anything else the tascam has got, from reggae to deathmetal!!. really fun. anyhow i landed on a setting that gives it a "ben-folds-five" piano style and it didnt sound so bad. vocals need to change...but its an easy change ...im going to give the vocals a different theme...maybe like an efkay neoswing thing...see what happens...i love this ps5! the user group isnt bad either!!

nice one mattl...hard for me not to default to what i enjoy! Mike, Cam, I have redone the song based on your comments. Jingle-bells . I have tried to add intelligence, remove a lot of distortion, add contrast and simplify it. In the meantime i have removed the fun! I'm really keen to hear what you think i need to do with it to make it something better.... Stan, there is a harmonica break in the middle that needs to be removed...i think...if all agree would you like ot provide a lead middle 8...its only about 20secs.. Rob

Man, the influences! I hear T-Rex, Lennon, the Kinks, maybe even some generic early 70's Glam-rock. I like it. Yeah, it's lost some of the spontaneity of the earlier version, but there's nothing that says you can't have two versions of the same song. I like this one plenty. I also like the harmonica solo. Keep it.

Mike, LOL! and im glad all those influences are showing! but you know i really couldnt see it myself...must be like when youre a kid and everyone says "oh... he looks just like his dad" but you just cant see it yourself! and glad you liked the harp...i might have found a lower key and distorted it if you didnt like it...but i think i have spent enough time on it now.
glad you two liked it, it was just for you!
cam, its amazing what you can get out of 3 chords!!
thanks alot for helping me develop this. i got to lean how to do the cut and paste, a bit of mixing...and managed to develop the patience to go back to something, pull it apart and rebuild it. but i just coudnt manage to bounce two tracks together and get one stereo track....i shall have another read of the essays and cams email.
