Ok guys this is the result of weeks of work, yes me, mr overnight gratification guy , weeks, dozens of takes. thanks to GKHead for the great funky bass. (he even got in the spirit and did 2 takes) . generally id say its quite a bit tighter from my past stuff all around John i redid everything after getting your bas last night. the rythm gtr pan left is still not exactly as fluid as i wanted but at l;east i dont think it sounds obviously "off". lemme know whatcha think, also as you can hear decided to sing it regular as opposed to what you heard... www.soundclick.com/mattli did some of the chorus stuff live on mixdown , debating on redoing parts.. .. tested the mix on a few stereos i really had to cut bass again on drums and on Johns bass alot. must be my phones

if i didn't know for sure, this song could have been written by one of my all time favorites of the past 32 years, the swamp king himself Mr. TONY JOE WHITE . . . Matt, everything has gotten so much tighter the past few months, your playing more subtle, your vocals great . . . great job guys . . .

thanks roger, i up'd another changed one and got rid of the first few lonesome drumbeats that was unnecessary..
looking forward to GKheads impression too
hows the bass --overall not the instrument-- in the song sound? i cut tons of it from the bass, drums, gtr etc to try and compensate for my past probs in that area, now im wondering if its a little flat soun ding? i want more oomph on the bassdrum but sont want to overpower the mix

Bring it on Matt! Cajan is it! If this were a release back in the 60's you would at least be a One-Hit Wonder. Cuse me while I go eat some fried rattlesnake with my eggs. Stan

this kind of music was popular then?? ironically the main riff is something borrowed from voodo chile the e7 hammeron g thingy. johns bassline sorta took over that riff which is great. i like this guy chris whitley plays dobro or something acoustic (slide) it sorta reminds me of this or some radiators. well i will be leaving for FL thurs i intend to study with the seminoles ancient rythmic patterns. yea i wish.. first stop, walleyworld.. i mean disneyworld.
illl tell my wife "if" i'd played in the 60's, and "if" id released this song then, and "if" the right people heard it i "may" have been a one hit wonder. im sure she';ll be proud hahahhahahhaha
hey i just discovere "charts" on soundclick.. greeeeeaat!! im on the charts AND im artist of the month. sounds like valid defenses for spending with the spouse to me.

Hey the 60s stuff is still around, in fact, 85-90% of Hendrix music was in the 60s. What has happened to music since then?, in my opinion not much. Just white boys & girls trying to rap or sound soulfully black. Listen to Star Search, American Idol, and the other music talent shows around.
My advise would be to develop some big biceps, wear a sleaveless T-shirt, frown a little while holding your guitar in the rain, and video tape this song. If you have the model-style body then you will make it this decade. As far as the music talent, you already have it.

Hey Matt, Sounds great man ! I like the vocals you retracked, I liked the first set also but I do prefer what you ended up with. You snuck in some extra vocals during the bridge which I didn't get to hear either ;D I was wondering what you were going to do with that part. The overall mix sounded good to me on my computer. I have a sub hooked up though so I already have a bass-heavy sound , and why wouldn't I . As far as getting in the spirit with 2 takes... I was ready for as many as you wanted to take at it! My bassline probably would have changed everytime you sent me a new file ;D . Glad everyone else enjoyed the song also, thanks ! Whevever you're ready for the "b-side" to this one Matt, I'm ready GKH

Hey John, we're #9 (!!!!!) in the acoustic blues charts on soundclick. granted theres only about 100 songs there, still lotsa listeners. go friggin figure.
anyhow, i sorta forgot about the chorus!!
so i snuck it in where i could i liked the simple slide better than the chorus woulda sounded..
youre on for next song.. id like to do another with with bass/drums/psychedelic keys and minimal guitar like driving home but better.. maybe on vacation ill have time to come up with some lyrics.

thank you much gustavo! you guys are great. its nice to know im making progress! for my guitar parts i start with completely dead strings. then on mixer (could do on ps5 too) i lowered 800hz a good bit as that made it sound less dead, boosted 12khz to give it some fake sparkle then on my mixer (behringer w/built in fx) i used pretty heavy mix of chorus and reverb. its a static preset not very adjustable except for wetness. i set it pretty wet (thats the grease hahahhaha) in all honesty this woulda been a roger song to sing for sure , talking with gkhead (the bassplayer who gave it the pro bass) we may add some verses and have a more complete /structured chorus sometime) maybe if i ever get there again roger might do vocs i just do chorus glad to hear mix was decent i spent time on that.. oh and gtr recorded with just one mic (cheap large diaphram condenser) about 1' away pointing towards the middle of the neck
