What is soundclick all about anyhow? I have assumed uptill now its a storage area, and although other people can view generally they dont! (I also read the web content, but..)Does anyone expect anything special to happen from it? Has anybody here or that you have read about had any special chain of events start with soundclick?

Soundclick is a place to upload completed mp3 files (as you know). A year or so ago, the dominant force for putting a site together of your songs was mp3.com. It had a huge member base, and it was possible to get hundreds of plays a day (yes, I said 'hundreds'). One of the big flaws of mp3.com was that if you had a free account (most everyone did), it would take sometimes close to two weeks to get a song uploaded and approved! Can you imagine now waiting two weeks to get a song approved after you upload it? The band I was/sort of still in had nearly two dozen websites (most of which I set up and looked after). Soundclick was the best in terms of getting a song approved (instantly) and a clean look, plenty of people to listen, etc etc. I talked a lot of people on the old TASCAM forum into using it. When mp3.com finally folded late last year, SC became (in my mind) the dominant online force for homegrown indie music. There are lots of other sites (Vitaminic, IUMA, Dmusic, etc.), but I still think SC has them beat. But of course, no one on this site is required to use it. Use any site you want. I've seen or have had a site on most of 'em; all I want is the link to your music (anyone reading this) so we can share with other PS5UG members.

OMG, two weeks! hahahaha. yeah i would be hopping around in my seat! Mike, you are the all knowing, the kind hearted, the leader. You have provided all of us a great place, a place that without which i could never be doing the sort of stuff im doing now. And youre not bloody charging us anything! (i do plan on getting to the ps5ug store) When asking about soundclick i was simply interested in what it can do. Actually until your email here i didnt know about mp3.com. So thanks again for the info. What I was really getting at is, if there was a song i had faith in then how would i get it out there. I just noticed Cams review by Steve Gilmore (congrats by the way), so already i can see that people are interested and do listen to soundclick...but what else is there that we can do, in addition to soundclick? SO far as i can see its a great host, but how do you get more people to look at it...i wonder...

YOU find out, please let ME know! Promotion is the hardest nut of all to crack. And since most PS5 users are probably solo acts, it's even tougher. It's great to have people dig your music, get lots of plays, etc. I've had airplay around the world with the band, DJ's raving about it, whoopie. At the end of the day, if you're happy with what you've done, that's really all that matters. Some people (like Cam) need to do whatever they can to at least try. Those of us who are more 'mature' accept that the money and the fame probably won't happen. We're content enough now to make sure the vocal is in key, or the guitar sounds alright. Eh, fellers?

;D , you'll be the first to know!!
You know and i agree. Theres a lot of music out there, some better than what is making money. I'm sure we have all walked of a pub after listening to a young band and thinking there is nothing thats gonna stop them going all the way, and then you go and watch..say...the stone roses live and (i love their recorded music, and they deserve everything they got) but honestly that guy (ian brown) couldnt hit one note! same as simon le bon...dreadful...(yes i shamelessly listened to duran duran...and dont worry i paid for it!)
so making money out of music isnt all about great performances, ok maybe wildly energetic!!. great recorded music? yes. maybe bad boy image helps, great vidoes, and lots of hype never hurts.
At the end of the day i also agree that we probably all want to just make as good as music as we can manage while enjoying our lives. I can envisage my life without being a rock star and im happy with the picture i have painted for myself....but!!...would i pass up a chance to get one of my songs out there, even if it were just someone interested in taking the song and giving to a band to record? thats my dream, a little recognition, some royalties with out disturbing my life as it is....ah well ...we all need dreams...what would life be without them?

You said it Rob! I'd be very content with that statement, If Its one thing, Ive learned about soundclick is that its a network for musicians, Id have to say that 98% of listeners on soundclick are musicians themselves! So the best thing to do is be pateint, NETWORK and visit peoples websites, if you like their music let them know about it on there message board, not only may you discover a great group, they may and most likly will return the listen. I just got another message on my S.C. Message board, there flying in ;D (Well not really). Get involved on the S.C. forums, getting and doing reviews is a great way of meeting new people and building a base of people who'll listen to your music much like the this group just much more diverse!
I remember when I first started on S.C. I got around 300 plays and 30 downloads my first month. Last month (Jan.) I got 953 plays and 86 downloads. Generally its been a climb some months not so good but generally Ive been getting more and more plays. SO I think patients is a big factor just give it time and NETWORK!!!

Then there the all mighty dollar... Someday when I feel my material is strong enough and my recordings radio ready I may just go out and get me some on those fancy sites they have over there with all the advertising as well, not for a While though

Youre a bit of an SC expert then...what happens when you get loads of hits though (i read a thread on sc buy paul nery he got loads of hits and charted #1 twice for several weeks, i dont think anything else happened though, and all his hits came from fans...he said the same thing as you...that sc is just musicians...)...have you thought about song competitions...?

Basically only PLays help the charts! So you got to get people to play the songs, lots of site hits does nothing.
