Hey rob,
I like the chord progression, Has a lot of potential, the lyrics are a little hard to make out, Maybe bring them forward a bit more in the mix, or even mix eq it a little different.
Nice melody, songwriting is getting good Rob! Improving all the time!
Good Job, Cameron

I agree with Cam - the progression & feel are all good. You're consistantly the best at using two vocals and making them blend, but the vocals are too far back. If you close your eyes and listen, try to imagine where everything is located. The most prominent sound is bass, so the bass amp is front and center in your mind's eye. But the vocals are behind the bass amp. Try a slight EQ boost around 3-5KHz, and a slight cut at about 400Hz. That should bring out the midrange better and avoid that 'boxy' sound, and not let the vocal fight with the bass line. It might help, but don't be afraid to tinker with it. I like the way the guitar started it off before the backing tracks came in. Looks like someone's paying attention in class.

Again you two are right on the money. btw I used the tascam mic for the vocal, which is not an excuse cos it recorded good levels and quality actually, but it turned out a bit muddy and im not sure how to clean it up...yet...but ill mess around with it...maybe....cos im thinking of using the shure and presonus preamp for a complete redo...also...might raise up the (dunno the right word here!) but make the prechorus higher!! (ignoramus) anyway..... (but i shall tinker with the settings first before recording...) yeah you're right too about the bass. i raised it to 120 just before mixing cos it sounded excellent on these new headphones (sony phones for 80..(based on rogers experience a few months back)...and its way to high in the mix.. mike, yep i try and involve everything i learn here on these messages...little bits of advice about using a proper intro...the delay in the tg coming in by a few bars...the copy and paste with 0.02 delay, and and and...!! this improvement is all down to you guys! i keep saying it i know...but you lot are just so important for my improvement.

Why is it that everyone feels like they need to hide their vocals (and lyrics) behind cheesy effects. Geez, if I could song like Rob, I wouldn't be afraid to put it out there for all to hear - naked (well, maybe a fig leaf in the form of a little reverb might be in order, but that's about it).Hello!! Am I talking to myself here?!
That goes for you, too, Stan. You've got one of the coolest voices on the UG and it's always covered up with Proclaim, Response, or some other funked up Effect. Come on guys!! Let's get our, er, ... I guess I'd better calm down a little bit.
Anyway, carry on.

Yes I tend to agree with you havin fun, Personally vocal effects are best used in conjuction with a clean vocal, using an effect on the vocal for example can enhance a hook line but using it during entire song does get to be a little much imo.

I must be missing something here - what vocal effect are we talking about in this instance? I don't see where Rob used any effect other than the PS5 headset mic and maybe a bit of reverb.

I do confess that I hijacked rob's thread to preach a sermon on Effects, which was addressed to those that have ears to hear (thanks for that "Amen!", latmat).
So, rob, it's with reddened cheeks and a sad countenance that I humbly beseech your forgiveness for detracting from your whole-hearted effort on this song.
And for the record, DID you use a vocal Effect? Confession IS good for the soul. ;D

no vocal effect!! just tascam mic, delayed the track and copied and bounced it back, and then added reverb!!
i tweaked the the mix like you said mike and it brought the vocal forward, but then for the reposted mp3 i rerecorded the vocal through the presonus and shure (still no effects hf, just the decasser..whatever that means).
reposted if youre interested.
actually me and stan did the "fly away" cover last weekend, and after we finished i mixed up the chords and put them back on the same drum layout! hey presto another song! i like to keep it simple, cos im..well you know...errmm ...simple!
