Trail of Tears V2.0 Totally re-recorded. Minor chord change tweak in the chorus. Added top end guitar. Minor changes to bottom guitar and octivized bass line to try and tighten everything up a little. This is the 1st time I went outside of the PS5 for effects, I used my POD 2.0 for both top and bottom guitars. Just couldn't get the distortion tone I wanted from the PS5, I obsessed on the tone for a couple days. Need advice on mix and EQ.. Which part should be forward? I have the bass line forward now, but I can't decide. Track 1 Squire w/ POD Track 2 Octivized Bass line (Squire) Track 3 Squire w POD (can't decide if I like the scratching on this part.. PS5 Drums Might wanna turn down your subwoofers Thanks for the Listen.. Jeff : www.soundclick.com/bands/6/spikesstridersmusic.htm

My thoughts... hmmm...
Technically - sound.
Musically - a tiny bit repetitious, although I guess that's the nature of guitar rock. I would try to fit in some counterpoint to break up the monotony.
Lyrically - how in the world are you gonna fit "Trail of Tears" to that melody? This I gotta see.
Otherwise, not bad! Or should I say, "That's BAD!!" (as my kids say)
Well, that's ol' BP's comments.

Sounds like being operated on with a blunt scalpel! I like the central theme of this, but it's kinda muddy. Listen to how much more pronounced the snare sounds when it cuts through. The guitars are back a bit in the mix compared to the drums, and lacking a lot of high-end in EQ. The chords seem to be very conflicting. Is it deliberate or do we have major fighting minor? Maybe it's a neat effect, but I can't decide. At any rate, certainly lyrics or some sort of lead throughout is needed. As neat as the hook is, it does get repetitive without something over it. It is sort of industrial, which is not everyone's cup of tea.

hmm... yea. if you like this kind of guitar attack you could do somehting with this. my first thought is like has been said, id pull the drums back alot.. or AND/or simplify them so theres more beat resolution in the song you know what i mean... tap tap tap tap *TAP* theyre kinda busy sounding to me.. with a nice varying vocal this could be cool..(to break up the repetition.. thats my favorite coverup for lack of ability..) i could picture somebody singing the phrase trail of tears over this groove.. i dunno i guess its kinda hard rock not really industrial.. ?? as long as youre having fun who cares what us bozos say.. but if youre intrested try some of the suggestions..

Thanks for the input all, it really helps.. Agreed... this is only the rhythm section.. although the melody and lead hooks I have so far aren't very melodic. Hopefully, it will be less so when the other parts are added. hehe, Trail of tears actually doesn't appear in the lyrics, but the lyrics prompted the title.. Agreed, the bottom guitar is irritating me cause I can't play it in a the heavy metal stacatto style I want, so it rings through... pretty much the same with the top guitar, and ended up using the scratching to keep myself coming in on the chords I actually wanted to play fully. I have the reverb turned way to down combat this, I might try it full dry both on the POD and the PS5 effects. It definitely isn't as tight as it should be. Well sorta deliberate, the original riff was the bottom guitar, and I used a set of chords I'm not even sure are in same scale/key. The end result is probably a Major fighting minor. But I liked the effect it gave me, and it has always reminded me of an indian war song. So the conflict in it is semi-on purpose (some of the conflict is poor tech and lack of theory knowledge) due to the fact that it ended up being a battle song. Lots of different things going on the battlefield . But I do feel a need, and can't figure out how to make the 2 guitars and the bass riff a little tighter. If you don't mind, I'll list the chords and maybe you all can help me figure out what key (if any) I'm in. guitars: Am, C#m, Gm, Em, Gm, F#m Chorus Em, Gm, F#m x3 Em, Am, F#m Bass riff is based in the f# minor pentatonic, but does have some dissonance with the guitars... The lyrics are done, but after my 1st attempt at singing them, I am reluctant to try them again. I have a lead hook for chorus, but can't find anything for the verse. Rhymatically it should be busy and conflicting, but not muddy for sure.. I'll move the drums back some for sure.. lol, you 'bozos', knowzos more than I do and I take everything into consideration. I'm a Quality Supervisor by profession, so I relish feedback to promote improvement of things . The only way I can improve it is if the listeners tell me what is wrong with it.. If anyone wants to re-eq and mix this, I would be interested in seeing how much it could be cleaned up. The Bottom guitar is full-on maxed-out tube distortion with treble and mid turned down on POD, the Top guitar is High Gain with bass turned down.. So I have some room to add less bassy feel on that end if needed. Let me know and I'll put it on FTP Anyways.. as always thank you.. and keep it coming if you feel like it Jeff

Well Damn Mike, what an ear! The chords had been bugging me, and I woke up in the middle of the night and realized I WAS playing majors on the top guitar over the minors on the bottom guitar. When I got a chance to sit down and figure it all out, I saw that I'm not even using a true minor on the bottom guitar. So I'll be recording from scratch again. Thank you Jeff
