hey mr gkhead id be interested in hearing what approach youd take to this? ? interested? i'll change it the version 1.1 if you do. yet another sappy a** happy a** yada yada song.. im pretty pleased.. some guy i know said my songs were too lullaby-ish for him.. thats cool!! i heard somebody say the same thing about vance gilbert who i adore (not that way.. not that theres anything wrong with that). so this oughtta be an eq challenge wsome bass. that really throws the mix ive been finding (once bass is added i have all this new eq to adjust usually..) anyhow.. then another musician i know who i havent dseen in yrs says.. are you still playi your electric?!? lotsa acoustic stuff there.. heh... i threw some lectric in this song.. imn thinking its a little obver the top in areas but i like the ending w/the electric.. anyhow should be on soundclick (aka: the political poll station) if its working..

Muscially this reminds me a lot of Michael Franks. I haven't heard any of his stuff in years. The bass adds a nice warmth to the song; it is indeed very professional sounding.

Matt,
This really sounded like a well-structured piece. The guitar thump/strum with some acoustic melodies, and bass quality was superb! Your moody vocals conveys a story line with feeling, and even a change up (bridge) or two thrown in. Almost perfect drum backing. You've about constructed your own signature sound with your recent songs. A true uniqueness that is hard to find in music these days. (guess it didn't reminid me of anyone but you)
One of your best posts in my opinion. Stan

thanks both.. i noticed that, even though i use compression while recording my voice still has \certain peaks to it.. playing with eq lately i found it sorta fades it back just so.. (3.2-4k). not sure if this is fading back the whole thing or just a range that i dont like to hear.. i cant tell whats imagination or real for some stuff like this..

That's probably a natural range for your voice. You may hear EQ peaks, but the compression should level out the volume peaks. A whole range of factors are probably involved, such as cutting/boosting frequencies, monitor system, blending with the backing tracks, etc etc etc.

Another Matt Classic. And real nice bass, John. Matt I think you made your singing debut here on the board with Any Road (scroll to the bottom) (PS5UG Roads Project). Maybe Any Road wasn't your first vocal here, but it made an impression. You definately have a vocal style that you've developed well. Jim

hello, i missed this one first time around...sometimes things are never as they seem, eh? starts of as a moan...ermm so, ....wicked mix...did this go through a piece of software, sounds really tight (yeah great bass johnny) and clear...i even noticed a...an experimental vocal melody deviation (just for this moment dont say a word) ...tell me something about that matt...oh yeah an roger, a play on words with a serious message...true though....i have had this one spinning for about 45 minutes now, trying to break down those changes, great tune, great recording.

thanks jim, rob, etc all.. nice to be heard. got this new theory that if i dont ask the wife for her opinions on songs she will never ask to hear what uim working on. so far 3rd song.. lets see how long this goes on for. did this go through a piece of software, nope.. just paying a little more attention to levels on the meter as opposed to ear, though the meter kinda sucks it is slightly better than my ear.. also the new acoustic records better its more evenly balanced volkume wise as opposed to the seagul which is like an acoustic strat which is also why i like it, but sort of an issue recording.. anyhow so i could get right in there with the mic an experimental vocal melody deviation (just for this moment dont say a word) ...tell me something about that matt... dunno.. the songs just in my natural range i guess so i knew i could do it.. you know i dont think too much about the singing.. john is getting some awesome balanced tone to his bass im not sure if its intentional or what but i didnt have to eq or anything.. i asked him what his bass is and how he records but i forgot what he said of course
