i been watching my new radiators dvd alot lately and while they leave a little to be desired in the lyrics department they make up with everything else many times over. (to me). so me (silly idea) i thought id try a rocker kinda thing w/out worrying to much about lyrcis.. keep it simple.. it still comes out dark and melancholy . sheesh welp this is it as it stands.. its got technical difficulties.. seems like an eq mess but im not sure what to do at this point.. maybe even start over with a whole new progression. im on my 3rd drastic eq attempt, fixed some drums, fixed some rythm.. perhaps redoing the electric part noodling through the whole song would tighten things oup.. i wanted it to sound sorta loose and live (in feel not quality of recording) but i think its a little too loose.. thoughts? also it seems muddy all around.. perhaops its the electric.. opinions? (here we goo..).. its like i was telling stan, its goity some good parts.. argh!!! called evening jam im at ver 1.2 now.. the more i listen im think.. dump this, do a new chord progression.. (yes simple i know).. got some cool riders on the storm kb in it i like from the korg

welp this is it.. about as dead as i can beat these 4 chords..
redid the electric line noodling through the song to get a better tone. i think i got a decent cruchy tone.. last versions was recorded direct as it was late. this time i used the usual method, a dynamic mic 1' from amp, a small diphram condenser about 7-8' back.. blended the 2 signals mostly even.. but this time the dynamic iused wsas my bassdfurm mic.. not sure how much that colored the signal.. the last few seconds of the song i think its got a good crunch (faraway sound that i wasnt trying for). i just used the amps natural ditortion, only effect was a "studio" reverb on the mixer.
thanks for listening!

Hey matt!
Ohh I like the instumentation man, the tones of all the instuments are really good, I really liked the synth bit! Drums work real good!
Your vocal keeps getting better and better, your tone and confidence is growing.
Still Id like to see more Variations in lyric meter from song to song. As well as more variation in the melody. You seem very comfortable with decending vocal lines, try mixing it up and adding a acending line, and combinations. This will help you achieve more of a question and answer styled melody. And in my opinion would help make the melodies more effective.. Also this can be a useful way of achieving a more unique melody from song to song aswell.
Vocally I feel you have got a whole lot more to say, not in words but in feel and flavour. As well as content, happy or cool compared to sad and reserved. Melody is the biggest factor in this equation. Gotta step out if you want to acheive it!
I think some more movement in the beggining or middle of the phrases will give you alot more musical choices and might help you to find that different emotion that your lookin for!
I hope you dont feel that I'm rippin on you here, just I know you got so much talent matt! Tons of growth as a perfomer during the last bit has really shown through on your recordings. Just gotta push your self further. Try new things!
I am guilty of the same crimes matt, I also need to step out of my pop box too. lol Mike has been kind enough to make this known to me on more than one occasion and I think it does make a difference for myself, for people like you guys to help me push along and grow as an songwriter.
Good job I really digged the instumentation!

Hey, nothing wrong with being in a 'pop box', but there are always vast areas for variation within said box. ;D

Of course mike! Ill never leave my pop/rock box, just no way! Its in my blood or something, well maybe for the very odd song! I dont expect matt should either, he fits perfectly in his box as well Its a big box that has lots of room in the corners that we havent explored yet. Lots of places to go still! ;D

cool compared to sad and reserved. Melody is the biggest factor in this equation. Gotta step out if you want to acheive it! too much lou reed in my past.. youre right though its easier.. im tryimg for a more pro sound now with the voice and im only comfortable in a limited range as is evident.. i still dont think ive got even that limited range down pat yet though.. so ill keep opn that path but i know what youre saying for sure thanks for listeing and feedback all! NEEEEEEEEXT song please
