This is one of the most complex pieces I've ever attempted. It almost became "I Wonder if I'll Ever Get This Thing Recorded!" Still needs a little cleaning up, mostly the percussion midi. I haven't written lyrics for it yet -- still contemplating! www.soundclick.com/bands/6/objecksprojecksmusic.htmPlease let me know what you think. Is this a good one for Mike's CD project? Charlie

this is great.. cool!!
my preference would be low the midi (though its good!) to bring the gtrs/bass out other thing technically might be nice to have the gtr a little warmer (not so much mid/basscut out of it). but you may like that for the soing thats me
i love your bass! want a job?
i can hear a vocal no doubt about it.. but still stands without it!
its a fine one for mikes projects!! yeppers.

Very nice Charlie. Yes, I could see it with vocals, or leaving it an instrumental.
Beautiful composition.

Because I can never resist tinkering with other people's songs, I'd like to suggest changing the kick drum from a straight quarter-note rhythm to a quarter - eighth/dotted quarter one. Sort of a 'bump, ka-bump, bump, ka-bump' thing.
Otherwise, it's superb. So far, it looks like my song is going to be the worst one on the CD!

Hey Guys!
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions!
Matt, I'll try some different EQ settings and see if I can improve upon the warmth of the guitars. I did cut back on bass, because my original mix sounded muddy. As it stands, it sounds good to me on my main stereo system, but very thin (trebly) on one of my car stereos. So I'll continue to work on it. I also recognize that the ending is sloppy, so that's also on my to-do list.
I find it quite interesting that you singled out the bass for comment. I spent 3 or 4 days working out the two guitar parts, three weeks practicing them, and three days recording them. The bass I worked out and recorded in a couple of hours! Is there a message in there somewhere?
Cameron, re: the Latin feel. The first time my wife heard the mix, she walked through the room and said "cha cha cha"! Yeah, seems like several of my songs lately have had a Latin beat to them. Then the nylon string guitar adds to that flavor.
Mike, let's see if I understand what you're suggesting for the percussion rhythm. If each dot or x represents 1/16, would your beat look like this?
x..xx...x..xx...
Matt, after hearing your latest song, I'd be interested in hearing what you would do with the "Wrong Side of Town" bluesy thing. Some of your experimental solo guitar work might add a lot to it. That song is next on my agenda. After that is another you might be interested in working on that has kind of a Grateful Dead feel to it. I actually have some prototype lyrics for that one! Working title is "Brother's Keeper."
I'm not looking at adding any other instruments to "I Wonder." Part of its appeal to me is the kind of complicated yet kind of simple acoustic structure. Two guitars, bass, percussion, and maybe vocal. Harmony vocal might be a nice addition, too.
Nobody commented on this, but to me the part where the two guitars play in unison, which is a simple G A C G progression (think "You Won't See Me" by the Beatles), the combination to me sounds a lot like a harpsichord!

Great acoustic appeal. I have a CD called "Pavlo" which is Spanish classical guitars with no vocal tracks. It almost sounded like I was listening to a "Pavlo" track. In fact, I took it out of my CD drive here at work just before I listened to your song.
Stands very good just as an instrumental peice. Really like it.

Beautiful, Charlie! It stands on it's own as an instumental. But if you must add lyrics, may I be so presumptuous to offer what it seemed to be saying to me when I heard it:
I wonder where She is tonight. If I could see her now, Everything would be alright.
I wonder where She is tonight. If I could just hold, Just hold her tight
Haven't got anything for the bridge yet.
Anyway, just a suggestion. Throw it away if it doesn't work for you. Again, beautiful tune.
