Hey guys! This one kinda came to me as I was driving home tonight. Four songs in the "to do" pile, what do I do? I do like Stan and write/record/mix in about six hours! In what I beleive is a first, I used a pattern for the drums and bass. This is a deep blues number. Had to do it since Matt's so happy now! Here 'tis: Love is a Hunger. Charlie PS - when a song comes to me this easily, I'm always concerned that I'm copying somebody. Am I?

it has echos of lots of stuff but then thats blues... (it all bein the same ) (DUCK!) heheh seriously. .. i like it, and in fact vocals seem to be getting a bit better.. still clearly offkey in spots as i know you know... but you definitely have your moments on this one.. "i cant eat i cant sleep" .. neat electric tone you got.. straight off a blues record to me..has grit. howd ya get that? sounds like with some practice and messing around only comment is theres a rythmic skip at 3:22 , its just the downbeat of your gtr strum coming in a bit too late.. really throws ya this is a neat sing songy thing .. original sounding to me charlie.. thats another thing about the easy ones.. sometimes theyre just good cause youre channeling (thats my belief (or maybe its copying lkike you say i forget... ) hehe

Handy thing, those patterns!
Nice pace, melody, tight feel overall. I agree with Matt there are some rough spots vocally, but a lot of it is right on. The missed strum is worth a redo as well. Maybe bring up the solo just a smidgen? Might be a nice piece for Smeedo to lay some sax over.

OK -- make that five songs in the "to do" pile!
Thanks for the comments, guys. Yeah, the PS5 "Ending" pattern kinda threw my timing off. (I think that's the spot you're talking about.) It could use a fix either through copy/paste or rerecording.
Grit! That's what I was after! (Matt, you inspired me with your phrase "... a perfectly good greasy acoustic blues ..." in describing one of your songs!)
Could it be the fuzzy guitar (speeking effect) in the background? The minor lead against non-committal 5 chords? The raw energy in the vocal (ha ha!)? Gut wrenching lyrics? Combination of several of these?
Mike, I'll try raising the solo volume a bit, assuming I remix after fixing the rhythm guitar glitch. Might even re-do that part of the recording, since it's not very inspiring for a lead solo. Me playing lead guitar is like a bungie jump -- hang on to see what happens and hope I stay in key! Kinda like my vocal, now that I think about it! ;D

Well by no stretch of the imagination do I even remotely consider myself a lead guitarist; but since I don't have anybody else to do it, I've had to muck in and play my own solos. And eventually, I've managed to come up with some things (or even pieces of things) that I quite like. So dig in, you've got nowhere to go but up!

I like your song Charlie. I can't get into the technical side of your song because I can't. But, I always wanted to say, that I like that "nostalgic" picture that you once had and is posted somewhere, and that you still have the first 45 you made... I can't see a darn thing on the picture closely, but, I do like the picture. I was three, when you were there... and I sometimes think, that I wish I could be in a similar picture when someone else was a small boy... in my own mind, this seems sweet. ( I can only understand it i guess)

Hey Charlie,
I wanted to complement you on the sound you are getting from the acoustic thump you are getting on the left-side channel. Brillent sound! I enjoyed the mood of the song and the lyrics. Excellent for putting it together that fast.
I've always enjoyed the uniqueness of your voice and the way it gets the point across. I would not worry much about being a little off-key in some parts. Kris, Willie, and many others key on their uniqueness vs. perfection. Anyway, that is my thoughts since I struggle so much with the singing part myself.
About lead guitar, I've been focusing more on lead over the past year and have improved. But what I am finding out is that guitar tone that matches the song is just as important as the notes your throw together. Like Mike says: there are plenty of Stop/Rewinds if you are not satisfied. I felt that the lead was simple yet effective enough for me. Do you have a harp in this key? I would like to hear one of your great solos along with the lead part. I know everyone has their own ideas.

Thanks for listening and for the comments, guys! Echobase, the nostalgic picture was one thing that got me back into music. I attended this seminar where they talked about how, as adults, we lose balance in our lives by concentrating so much upon work and other "adult" responsibilities. We forget how to play and enjoy life. Later we wrote autobiographies. That's when I pulled out the old pictures and the record we had made (which, by the way, was recorded in one of those little sound booths, and sounds horrible!). About that time, I decided to get back into my music. Until then, I hadn't played much since the early eighties. Stan, thanks for the comment on my rhythm guitar! Actually, it was my Casino electric with the PS5's "R&B" effect. I decided to do an all-electric in contrast to the several acoustic songs I've done recently. I've thought about doing some harp on top of the guitar solo -- maybe one with a bit of distortion to keep the sound raw. I'll experiment with that if I have time this weekend. Right now, looks like I may be working Saturday. Thanks also for the vote of confidence on my vocal! Appreciate it, Roger! Charlie

Sorry I'm late Really nice Chuck! I listened twice. As some have said, I also like how you manage your voice, it goes on pretty well with the blues. As Matt says, when you go into the "you can't eat, you can't sleep" thing you're right on tune. Sounds really well. ;D The solo is very well balanced with the rest of the song (melodically) I really liked it. Nice work overall! I also listened to "Son Song". It's really from the heart, one can see that!

Thanks, Gamma!
I'm planning a re-do. Friday night and yesterday morning I practiced playing solo guitar to this song until my fingers were sore. Feels like a blister coming on!
So, please watch this space for an update...

Charlie, I too really enjoy the uniqueness of your voice - as Stan was saying. I like this number. The solid rhythm guitar really gives this song a strong backing. It's kind of exciting when a song just comes out. - By the way all: my sound card on my PC has been belly up for the last month and I've not been able to listen to anyone's music. But now it's fixed! ;D
