Hey, new tune. recorded the guitars using the tele plugged straight into the ps5, and the vocals using a preamp, compressor and akg condensor mic. its the first tune i have written with the guitar and a pen and paper for a while now, instead of getting a guitar track down then looking for lyrics. im pretty sure that im going to use this simple method for the next few tunes.
listening to it from soundclick it appears the distorted guitar has more prominence than the mp3...good for some not for others!
song is about...if anyone cares (and yes i posted the lyrics!!) realising that youth and its troubles (and the baggage i brought with me) are behind me, and looking around and thinking im pretty damn happy with life that i have...
song can be found if you follow the link...

nice playing robbo . . . . there's something that it reminds me of and i can't put my finger on it . . . stones do pink floyd? nah, i'll come up with it . . . the guitars seemed recorded really hot but it gave it an edge that after a while was almost disconcerting, and that's a compliment . . . amazing how you can do an incredible song around a ferw lyrics while i try to cram as many words as possible (5 pounds of words in a ten pound can) or something like that . . . . i like it . . .

Reminds me of someone too - the vocal harmonies - but I can't think of who it is.
Great vocals, Rob. I like the way the distorted guitar cuts out for the line "lately ive been thinking that its easier". It really emphasizes the line. Good mix.
Jim
What's with the new icon. Is that suppose to be an "R"?

mondrian,
nice rocker.... you have a nice sense of melody.. before the vocal im thinking.. another boring rocker , then it takes this really nice melodic change.. what is this a minor 7th feel?? i love thos chords.. yea who the heck does this remiond me of??!?!?! an 80s rock feel.. (is that ist? some 80's band that it reminds us of.. ??.. )perhaps thats the singing style and distortion sound. im glad you stopped the distortion midsong its needed.. makes it that much better when it starts again.. rock on (in british accent which i do pretty well but couldnt tell ya what locale) the more i listen thats what im thinkin that this reminds us all of: that anthemic 80s rock song sound m, in a general way. thats awesome you got that effect

oasis. i ripped off oasis, or at least i tried to...but then it turned into something else....i have probably seen 20 good bands in the last few weeks (Reading and Austin festival) and since a few of those bands where from the 80s (PIXIES!!!) and the new ones seem to be emulating them...
yeah rog, i took the minumum req for lyrics , two verses and one chorus...it was relatively hard to say everything i wanted to say in so few words...but its going to be much easier to remember too!!! again its one of those things im embarrassed to ask ...but what does it mean when you say something is recorded "hot"?
the tune is built around oasis type chords (using the minor 7th matty), and the construction of the song is loosley based on "live forever", but jim the harmonies came from now where, i mean i finished the song all but for the backing vocals and i didnt have any ideas...so i just hit record and and launched into it....i hate doing anything with out a plan...but harmonising has just completely befuddled me. what came out was captured...but i cannot repeat it. i mean its there in the recording but when i try and recreate it as im listening in the car...cant hit it?! odd hey, i try and intellectualise everything and yet that is exactly what is standing in my way of harmonising...
oh yeah, thats the pickguard i have on my tele!!!!

oh yeah, the mix that i put up in SC is not the one i have been listening too. for some reason i was possessed just before i posted it....so i decided to remix....last minute...why? dont know....but the one i have in the car basically has the distorted guitar lower in the mix...so i shall post that....i might leave them both up and if anyone would care to choose the most preferable then id be most grateful for that input....ta!

Rob - great tune from start to finish. A minor point, but I'm tired of hearing mp3s with chopped off endings. I like the way it starts, the way it ends, and the bits in between. As I write this, only the 'hot guitar' mix is available, and yeah, they could come down a bit, mainly because they're covering the vocal too much. The break is unexpected and a nice touch. It's just good all around. Toss in some cellos and you're there!
I hear the Oasis feel, but I know what everyone else is hearing in the harmonies: Badfinger. Go back and relisten to Come and Get It and see if you don't agree with me.

yeah rob . . . everyone's definition of "hot" is what i meant . . . and when i have recorded what i thought was "hot" i was too loud and trebly . . . pixies were just here in denver . . . show i would have liked to see tonight was a campaign concert for our senator (democrat of course) at the fillmore tonight . . . . don henley, glenn frey, and timothy b.schmidt but i couldn't justify the 100.00 a pop . . . . they do also have big head todd and the monsters and leo kottke on the bill . . . . post the re-mix . . . .

Well I was going to comment but it looks like we are all starting to think more alike.
I was going to say that you sure did a lot with just a few lyrics, but Roger already said that.
I was going to say that you sound like the English version of Badfinger to the tee, but Mike already said that. All I can say is I loved the mix just the way it was and vocal sustain was incredible. Gonna have to burn this one in the MP3 archives.

hehehe...i hate it when everyone says what im thinking!! but hey badfinger! i just got to listen to that bad finger tune (ta mate)...hmmm...it sounds very beatles dunnit? i guess theres no getting away from it, they must have touched everyone since them....
i posted another mix....one i did tonight cos i dont like any of the mixes...and of course i dont like the new one that i posted...but the rhythm is way back so see how you like it.
but this is the general sound i have been looking for ....so this track is very significant for me, it marks the first track that i know i could stand on stage and play comfortably...cos the lyrics dont reveal anything about me! and also because its a tune all the way through. i mean it has to be cos i cobbled together chords that oasis use!!
right im off to work on another just like it!!
