Hi group,
I've had the PS5 for a couple months now, and have pretty much just experimented around learning the box and having a great time. But wanting to burn CDs for family Christmas, I was forced to finally mix something down to MP3. So what you will find is two not so polished instrumental songs, mistakes and all. The link is www.soundclick.com/oancient1.
"Two Chords" is a rocker and is more of a jam track than a song. It started out with me at the kitchen table with the PS5 the 2nd week I had it, finding a nice beat and quickly programming the TG for 4 verses of droning A bass and drums to jam to. After several jamming sessions and many recording takes, I ended up with what you hear now -- three guitars and the TG. When I listen to it driving down the road it makes me want to go fast.
"Hidden Stangers" is a mood piece that trys to convey sadness and hope in the same song. It started out with a a couple night programming the TG with chords that have been floating around in my head for a long time, and there it stayed for a long while. Later on, after giving up (temporarily?) on lyrics, I spent the better part of and afternoon making an instrumental out of it.
I'm embarrassed that these are the best that I can come up with after almost three months. I need to find more time and give more effort on my end, but I'm really pleased with the ease of doing things on the PS5 and the quality of the end product so far.
Comments/advice are appreciated of course, especially advice on EQ -- which was not changed anywhere from the default values. I plan to pull out Mike's EQ guidelines over Xmas holidays and try some of the things he suggests. But as my hearing rolls off pretty quickly, I value others' judgment a lot.
As for collaboration, any is welcome. If anyone is interested I will request access to the FTP server and post the native format files. Only one track is available on "Two Chords" without bouncing -- a real bass playing more than one note would be nice. On "Hidden Strangers" one track is open, but another is a throwaway that now has an early not-so-good guitar that you can hear way down in the mix.
Thanks to everyone in the group for the wealth of information on this site that led me to choose the PS5 and helped me put these simple songs together.
Happy Holidays to all.
Tom
