My dad has been doing all of the posts here lately, but this time it's me... the son. I just put a new John Mayerish song on my soundclick page. So check it out. Thanks for all the comments so far. Hope you like what you hear.

The song has potential, but the recording is still . . . loose. Things like the obvious drum problems leading in and out of the various sections, the overdriven & distorted vocal, etc. All things that are fixable with a little time, attention & experience. Rough recordings are okay if they can convey the idea of the song. When the playing or engineering get in the way of that, then it's time to stop and rethink things. As for the song, at about 5:03, it needs a solo or middle eight to break it up. Still, for all that it's much better than I was doing at 13, so what do I know.

sterling effort. and i think theres a good tune in there...maybe you can rerecord it in a years time when you get better at the equipment....
my 2 pence worth: (but per mike: yeah i wish i was this good when i was 13)....although its worth getting good at everything and letting it all come together like cooking a meal...however it may be worth reducing the variables...you are trying to win the whole war in one battle!! have you thought about using just the ps5 drums...cos actually the guitar track is quite strong...if you used the ps5 and recorded your guitar against the ps5 drums...and maybe dialled in the bass too...then you would see a quantum leap in improvement in less than a day...oh and then wait till everyone is out of the house and give the vocal some welly!! you have a good voice...release it!! maybe drop an octave...or just sing from the belly...
keep it up...son! you will be a megastar in no time!

Thanks for the encouraging words and advice. I think I will try to remix Written in the Sand, and try the tone generator for the drums. As for the guitar and vocal track, I think I'll keep them.
I'm still working on my singing, I've been playing guitar for 2 1/2 years (since just before my 11th Birthday), but I just started singing about 2 months ago, out of necessity. We had the Haloween Dance gig at my school, and my singer/keyboard player (as I found out) wasn't a singer. Of the 12 songs we were playing, I ended up doing the vocals on 10 of them.
Again, thanks for the kind words!
