A new song on my Soundclick page. There's a PS5 and a 788 version, just for the heck of it. Both versions feature a somewhat heavily processed vocal, and nothing in the way of flashy instrumentation. I started working on this back in October, but with various things (Xmas, being sick with flu in January, etc.), it's taken forever to finish up. I've listened to it so much I haven't a clue as to how it really is. It may take months of not hearing it to hear it again.

Hey Mike It's been awhile since I've seen you post anything. I listened to both versions. I liked the PS5 version. I guess I'm just a little partial you know. A good song any way you look at it. Lyrics well thought out. No wonder it took you so long. I could make 3 songs out of all those words. Of course I've been known to get a little repetative in my lyrics. Good work Mike. Sahib

Well drafted song Mike!
A personalize song about your life seems to reflect more in the vocals, as having true & sincere meaning.
I listened to both versions (8-track first). When I first started hearing the 4-track I felt that the vocals stood out in the mix better.
But after going back to the 8-track I discovered quite a bit more detail & clarity between the track layers, and everything comes through well.
The 4-track piano sounded good, but with the 8-track you could also hear more depth with synth.. backing.
Overall, I would definitely prefer the 8-track.
Nice song and lyrics. Stan

Thanks fellas. I knew some people might have been wondering what I was up to, recording-wise. It was certainly something I needed to get off my chest.
Stan, I know what you mean about the level of the vocals. It's sort of a compromise. I discovered that the best analogy is looking at your face in a mirror - too close and you see all the little blemishes, but too far and you lose detail. So I worked a lot on getting the vocal at the right depth, so to speak.
Having the two to compare, you can hear the difference in things like reverb, etc. Note also that while the PS5 version has one piano and one string part, the 788 version has two pianos, and three string parts.
Altogether, with importing the drums and marimba from the PS5 there are about 11-12 tracks in the 788 version.

Excellent tune Mike - you've crafted a lyric that lets the listener see through your eyes, if only for a short time. The mix (788 version) is very nicely balanced, and sounds great. By the way, congratulations on your new arrival! Best wishes for nothing but health and happiness!

Thanks Matt & Rob (Hey Rob, did you listen to the song(s)?). True true, tho; no time for recording at the moment. Just sleeping more than three hours is a major accomplishment right now!

Boy, did I ever! I charted out the melody line, then sang it and sang it and sang it. At one point I decided it was too high, so I had to drop it down a key, which required me to re-record everything but the drums. Then I sang it and sang it and sang it some more. Another reason it took me almost six months from start to finish. Glad you like it. The 8-track version is very similar.
