It's only been a year since i plugged the old ps5 in, and i'm afraid to say that i ended up just jamming a tune that came to me an hour ago. What it does show is the product of me jamming all year. Hope you like it. Love and Hugs, Rob. www.aurange.com

Interesting piece, Rob - sounds like the mike was barely millimeters away (very up close vocal). I did laugh when you sang the line "I'm never gonna give up smoking", and then proceeded to "la la la" in a high register that most smokers couldn't dream of reaching!

I like the general idea of the song, and you keep things "off-guard-&-guessing" with the lyrics. Sounds like there was some vocal overload (clipping) towards the middle to end of the song. Compressing the vocals some before hitting the recorder should take care of that.
Want to hear more! "We Want Rob!!" "We Want Rob!!!!" Did he go home already?...maann.

nice stan, thats exactly what was fun with the "off-guard-&-guessing"...but its cos i was making it up as i went along!!!...i was just messing around, and then the chords sort of fell on me....i started la lal la....and just grabbed the ps5...actually i had to go looking for it....and plugged it in before i had any lyrics...i just wanted to capture the chords and the melody ..but as it was recording i thought i may as well go for it....the reason i put it up for anyone to listen to is cos i was so pleased at how...sort of....blended it sounded...i know the actual recording is crap....but its definitely a milestone recording for me...so pleased with it! man, i cant wait to start recording full on....i bought a house a xmas and im getting ready to move in....and get myself a studio all set up in the house....when its done....ahhh....then ill be ready....whoohooo!!

I knew you had said it was something thrown together in less than an hour.
I can only remember doing somthing like this one time before (where I didn't complete the lyrics before just singing something onto a track). It didn't turn out this good though, but did get me started into some sort of direction.
Good "tip." I usually start out my guitar unrefined or spontaineous, and do, sometime several takes, but seldom approach vocals this way. But why not? Will each iteration things usually tend to improve.

P.S.-- Congradulation on your new home! Can't wait until the HD starts churning again, CF card, or whatever.

i think the key is to do them together...record the guitar and vocal at the same time...and thats why i didnt record anything last year...ive just been practicing trying to ...well get the "live" effect right...i figured i had to get the singing and playing good before i record again...and then realised that the whole song writing process had changed for me....so im going to try and always record the vocal while im playing the guitar...thats the challenge ive set myself....whether or not the orginal guitar track features in the final mix is another thing!!

What about extra CF cards? Anyone out there to reply with specs? What really works!

I was thinking that there was a detailed document on this that Mike posted but I don't know where.
CF cards have been sort of hit or miss with me. The PS5 uses CF cards "very heavily" so don't get too concerned if one goes out on you every year or so, depending on how much usage, quality, size, etc.; but these days they are so cheap its no big deal.
Most brands work fine, but several have had problems with the SanDisk CFs, so you might want to avoid this brand. CF selection has worked out the opposite for me. The Tascam CF card that came in the box with my PS5 went out the 2nd day, and Tascam mailed me a replacement. They were both the 32M type. The replacement card that Tascam mailed to me went out about a year later.
I used a SanDisk 128M for a while and my son traded me for his SanDisk 256M because his MP3 player didn't seem to like it. I've been using this card for over 2.5 yrs. without a glitch. I may be guessing on this, but it seems that the larger capacity the card has, the less problems.
Remember that the PS5 only uses 128M no matter what the size is, but if CF cards are like hard-drives, the larger the capacity, the faster the access speed. Maybe this is why my larger cards have stayed healthy longer.
Anyway, I would probably buy a 256M card and format it on the PS5. If you "Optimize" regularly (selected under Song menu) you shouldn't run into any glitches during your recording sessions.
