Hiya matt,
Thanks very much! I think the trem you're referring to is the keyboard part I put into the chorus. I first recorded it dry, straight from the Casio's output, and the ran the dry tracks out through a Behringer Virtuallizer Pro using the Leslie preset, then looped through a BBE Sonic Maximizer and finally just a touch of compression. Brought those back into the console, and mixed the effected tracks under the dry tracks to give the keys the "personality" you're hearing in the mix.

I thought this song was good, but then Al came over and gave an unbelieveable vocal performance - including all the harmonies! If you think you liked it before, do give this a revisit - I think it'll be three and a half minutes well spent! www.soundclick.com/bands/6/ballsagainstthewall_music.htm"Midnight Train"

Gives the song a completely different sound, doesn't it. As I recall, your original vocals didn't include any harmony?
One suggestion. It sounds like the guitars, keyboard, and vocals are panned pretty close to center. I think the mix could benefit from more stereo separation of these tracks (especially during the chorus where the vocals build and the lead enters).
I really like this tune, Bob!

Hi Jim,
Thanks very much for your kind words and your constructive criticism! I will have to revisit the mix, and mute the vocal tracks. When Al put down his vocals, I focused all my attention on getting them to sit just right and work well together. The rhythm guitar is panned close to left center, with a reverb treated "echo" panned far right. The keys originally had two tracks, but I cloned them to a stereo pair to free up harmony tracks. I'll get under the hood and take a peek!
Thanks! Bob

Even in lo-fi, the overall mix is clear, something I hear in nearly every 2488 tune I've heard so far from anyone. The new vocals really punch up the tune, esp. in the chorus with the organ & lead guitar groovin' right in behind. I'm not quite so nuts about the falsetto harmony in the verses - I think I'd like it better if it were dropped down into a more normal register, but that may just be me. Adding an intermediate harmony may tie all three together as well. But I can understand if you think you've worked on it enough. You can only sweat a mix so far!

Hi Mike, Thanks for giving it a listen - When Al first heard the song, he immediately heard that voice and those high backing vocals for it. I agree that something in a lower register would round it out nicely, but for now, I'm going to leave this one as is. I'm helping a friend with a project - 5 original songs. He's also a good singer, and so far we've tracked his rhythm (Martin D-15 with a Dean Markley pickup - very nice sound) and his vocals. He's asked me to jump in from there, so the other things of my own are on the back burner for the time being. Thanks again!
