I was cleaning up some stuff this morning when I ran across some lyics that Collin Hanson and Mike put together; probably about a year ago. The top said that Collin did the lyrics but Mike added the 3rd verse. I only saw 2 verses and a bridge on either Mike did the 2nd verse or I lost the last one.... Anyway, the absent-minded proff decided to follow through on an old project. Of course I forgot the melody so I had to start from scratch. The song is called "The New Day" and is posted on my Christian site. I appologize for the last discovery, but what is the ole' saying? better late than never. No drums, just guitars, and well....look out. Stan

I forgot about this; Colin needed some words, so I just came up with something. I can't remember listening to it if any of the lyrics are actually mine anymore. Collin?
Anyway, it's a nice desolate sound. Like a cross between a spaghetti western soundtrack and CSN&Y. Not sure about the pitch on some of those drawn-out words ("daaa-aay"), but overall not bad for what must have been a day's work. Guitar work is fine throughout, as always.

Mike, The mix didn't sound like the vocal pitch was all that off, but when I listened on SC the next day the vocals sound really bad. I've come to the conclusion that hearing a note or melody in your head is a far cry from actually being able to sing it. Sad but how true it is. I am starting to think more along the lines of finding people to record vocals on my mixes where I am striving for good quality. Plus, I've always enjoyed recording guitar tracks, but have never really liked doing the vocal parts. And, I really don't agree that practice makes perfect on vocals, whereas it usually does apply with musical instruments. Thanks for listening. I think Collin mentioned that he had already done a melody part for these lyrics and I am interested in the sound of his arrangement. Stan

As Mike said, the guitar work is impeccable - nice subtle use of the wah sitting in the back of the mix. Very clean sound on the main guitar track!

Hey Stan,
The lyrics and melody sound real nice I like the chord progression in the chorus... The vocal is not your best I would say another take for sure...
Is you 2488 running yet? have you dont any recording on it yet? Good job! Cameron

Yea Bob, in total agreement. I am finding myself doing a lot of vocal takes drinking lots of water, disturbing the neighbors & family, dog, etc., all in the spirit of getting one good vocal track to come out. Is there a trick to getting your vocal tracks to stay on key without sounding like Alfalpha.. I did this recording on the 2488 and then ripped an MP3 off the CD to MP3. Lost some quality but that was to be expected. Recorded the acoustic guitar through the condensor mic (an MLX V63M i think) and then the WAH part for the last track. Thanks for the encuoragement Cameron, I may give it another shot after a fresh supply of bottled water comes in. Stan

I did an experiment tonight & redid vocals using the condenser mic for the first time. Filtered out the paper shuffling background sounds and bumps during the remix. Vocal was a little weak so I copied the track with a milli-sec delay to stereoize and strengthen the sound. Yeah, still using that same trick Mike taught a couple of years back. Went ahead and reposted it. Like the vocals better but still not what I want to hear. I brought the acoustics up a little, and the electric guitar down to give it a crisper sound. Time to go to bed. Really liked the feel of this one. Not busy as far as the instruments go and that seems to fit the lyrics well. Has an Open and airy feel to it..

I'm baaack! Yep, Mike you wrote verse 3. I do have another arrangement (different tune) of this song. I will post it as soon as I get a chance. Wife is keeping me very busy in my "retirement". How do you do it, Mike? Stay home all day, take care of new baby girl, and moderate this forum? Take care all. I'll try to tune in more often. Collin
