This is just a "Straight Ahead" blues rock instrumental that I did. I used the 2488, but ironically, it only has 4 tracks and the TG drum pattern. Stereo acoustic guitars, a bass, and a lead. This project was really suited for the PS5, but I'm trying to learn on my new recorder.
I was getting ready to delete the project when I listened to it one more time, and it sort of grew on me. The Strat lead lines progress as the song goes, using a bunch of pull off and open strings at the same time. Some might say that it is repetative but I tried to change it up on each verse to change its mood as it went along.
Anyway, it is in the "Stan's Band" link. I'd like to hear some opinions if you get some time to listen.
Thanks, Stan

hey stan, took me back to san francisco early 70's!!! can't believe that is only four tracks, sounds like you used the entire 2488 . . . . don't worry if you don't know how to stop, keep playing it . . . great quality . . . bet the neighbors love your playing

Great tone, and playing as always, Stan - when you continue with this, I'd drop the acoustics a bit in the mix to better bring out the Strat, TG drums, and bass. Glad your new 2488 is behaving properly for you!

Thank you guys for listening.
Roger, funny you mention the 70's. When I was in the Army I bought up almost every LP put out, from Allman Brothers, Steely Dan, Santana, James Gang, Jethro Tull, Blue Oyster Cult, Mountain, plus million more; yes and even Croce & Denver. I was consumed in music & almost every spare dollar was spent at the PX buying groups of LPs at a time, totaling 400+. Music productivity in the 70's will never be matched again. So probably any influence that I have regarding music was set during that time. I don't remember much about those Army days expect for the amount of free time I had to just lay around and listen to album after album. Bottom line is, thanks for that kind of comparison.
Bob, thanks for the input. My 2 sticking points, and big ones, are the fact that I am still struggling with the 2 disciplines that I came into this forum with: mixing and singing (2 steepest learning curves). One will probably never be resolved but I am hoping that my mixing will improve as I start to invest more time with each track.
Thanks again Roger, Matt, and Bob for your input. Stan

P.S. --
Mixing is deceptive because it may sound good to me in the recorder, sound good on some of the computer's MP3 players and not others, and then the SoundClick compression can really mess around with track blend, & individual instrument volumes.

It can be, no question. I mix with the monitors first (Alesis M1 Active MKII's), then do a headphone check to make sure everythings placed where I want it in the stereo field. Then I play it in mono, again to be sure all is clear. Then I feed it (via the S/PDIF out) into the computer and check it on the THX certified Altecs. When it sounds good on ALL checks, I then burn a quick CD and pop it into both the stereo and the car. I also do the MP3 conversion in the computer, so at least the high bitrate (128k) version in SoundClick is what I want it to be. They still downsample it for the low bitrate, but that one I can't control. I think I'm getting a decent handle on mixing now....singing, on the other hand.....

Currently, I only have a pair of Sony stereo headphones to mix, and two tiny speaker that came with an HP Pavilon computer that is 4-5 years old. Maybe some slim monitor speakers in the future will help. For now, I'm going to live with what I've got. A computer upgrade wouldn't hurt either.

Hey Stan
I like this one, I think this one has a good vibe that some vocal might go over real nicely on... Its great to hear you on the 2488, I can really hear the improvement in sound quality, its really alot crisper and clearer then the PS5 eh?
I find the drums a smidge low in the mix and a bit reverb heavy, there are different drum kits you can use too if you didnt know which can come in really handy find the proper sound stylistacally...
The rythme guitar sound amazing to me, I love the clearness of it! Sounds like your going to make some Killer recordings!
Awesome Stuff, I'd love to hear what you think about my latest if you have time! Cameron

Cameron, I'll make sure to listen to some of your new tunes tonight since I checked your site and the MP3s can be downloaded instead of streamed. At work our firewall prohits MP3 downloads or even being able to listen to music CDs on computer with headphones. At home, my Airlink router allows me to download from the internet but not stream an mpu. It is a little irritating, but keeps viruses, trojen horses, etc. off my computer. Thanks for your comments and listening time. I am in the habit of pushing the "Single effect" for reverb just before mixing. But, since there are no vocals it was probably not necessary to add reverb. Stan

nice one.. Strat kinda gets lost in the mix, and couldn't really pick out the melody you build on through out the song. Agree vocals would add to this one.. I like the style and Strat licks...
