I just finished a new song where the title is also grammatically incorrect. oops, I mean I did it on purpose... (you know how southern rock lyrics are ) It is only about 2.5 minutes but I tried to make everything including guitar sounds as meaningful as possible instead of spraying out-of-context filler stuff in it like I usually do. I feel a little better about this one, and did try to spend more mix time and less recording time than my usually undisiplined practices. Hope you can get some time to listen to it in my Christinan links. Thanks, Stan

Hiya Stan, I think your classic rock roots are showing in this one - the rhythm style and structure and the use of the wah bring me back to summers in the late 60's. As to the mix - you might want to EQ the bass to make it a bit less muddy (roll back to -4 or so at about 100-125 Hz), and then bring it up a bit in the mix to have more presence. I love the bridge part, where it actually sounds distant, or like a car radio back in those 60's summers, before you bring it all back in to take it out. The ending was somewhat abrupt, I thought - was that the intent? In any case, always nice to hear your new stuff!

I'll check into the bass EQ...but as for my endings, some are abrupt like that, mainly because I just run out of the drum track, and lack much imagination beyond that. Maybe fade it out instead? I'll have to go back a listen. I really appreicate your input Bob. Have you been doing any writing lately. My wife was away this weekend so I actually wrote and recorded another one today. I used a Pop 6/4 beat which I didn't follow real well, but got some interesting sounds mixed anyway. Let me know as soon as you post something new, guess we could all stand to hear some of what everyone else is doing right now. Summer is over so no more excuses. Stan

Hiya Stan, Hmm...maybe a fade would work at that! I am finally getting back to my own stuff - I've done a total of 7 songs for friends of mine from late spring till September, but they're all finally finished. I've been corresponding with Mike in his thread about Ollie, Mate, and Me. I'm doing an experiment where I'm posting a song in progress, instead of waiting till it's complete. This one's called "Autumn" (working title), and I just posted a new mix this morning - v1.6, a la mattl! I haven't done a lyric for it as yet - I'm finishing lyrics for another one first, then I'll tackle this one. This morning's upload was a sub mix where I had to balance the EQ on the rhythm guitars, as well as reposition them in the stereo field. I put the original leads back in, but bathed them in tremolo and delay, dropped them low in the mix, and panned them hard L&R. You'll see the original info under Mike's post, where he suggested it would be nice to see how others work through the mechanics of putting a song together. He outlined his process in his posts for that song. Anyway, that's what's new here~!
