I'm reluctant to post this because I was going to scrap it. I put this together in a completely different order & format than the way I would normally approach writing & recording a song. I have no idea what kind of a response, and since I still don't feel comfortable with it, I thought maybe someone might have an idea or two. I'm sure it violates some of the common rules of music. Anyway, I think it could be salvaged, at least maybe in parts. Stan

Stan,
I admit your description piqued my interest. Listening with the headphones on (the baby's asleep in the next room), I don't hear anything so bad as to warrant your concern. In fact, I think it's pretty good. Only two things really stand out as requiring more work; The first transition with the drums seems out of time with the guitar, and someone has to pause to allow everything to catch up; and the ending. Another pretty abrupt ending when a glorious fadeout with lots of guitar is a more obvious choice.
I know from your post in the 2488 forum that you're spending more time mixing and sweating the nuts and bolt work involved than actually playing guitar. That's pretty much the nature of the beast, I'm afraid.

Thanks Mike for your kind comments. I think the change from the verses into the chorus is too adrupt. I might try to redo the tracks with a smoother transition.
Yea, its seems that "that" mixing-beast has been chasing me all over this planet for the past few months. I'm thinking about getting a Sonic Maximizer for Christmas to help spread things out a little better. I played with a borrowed one, and liked some of the results, but I have also read from Tascam forum posts that it's easy to dial in too much.
Thanks again for your comments; as always, appreciated.

Hiya Stan, Just listened to The Place, and I agree - there is a tempo shift when you go into the bridge / chorus part - it sounds as if the actual tempo slows (hard to catch with all the instruments there), causing the abrupt shift. It certainly shows promise though - I wouldn't scrap it, I'd save it for a day off, a quiet house, and time to experiment and play with it!
