Stan,
Don't worry about dominating the posts; you just keep on doing what you're doing.
This is a good solid effort; the backing is nice and dense, and has a nick thick sound to it. The backing vocals work well in the chorus, and overall the song is 'sinewy', with just enough tension to make it interesting. Mix sounds okay. Drums might be a tiny bit too busy at times, but it's not enough to distract or overwhelm. The only suggestion I could make would be in cutting down the length of the chorus from what seems to be eight lines to six. Otherwise it tends to go on a bit longer than expected. The final chorus feels to be about the right length. Not a fatal flaw, but just how I would have done it differently.
Seems like a very confident recording.

Thanks Mike for your time to listen and analysis.
I redid a mix today and recorded the vocals again; since there were too many slurred/truncated words. I also backed off the drums a tad. This song was either going to be where the vocals were sitting too light or too heavy ontop of everything else.
I used my tube preamp into the PS5 on channel B, and use the Emphasis effect to lineout into the 2488 with its vocal compressor at about 10db. Now the vocals are really ripping through but close to dominating everything else.
It may be OK or might need another remix. Stan

P.S. -- don't stream with the SC player since it is adding a bunch of compression to compression. You can download the hi-bit rate a Myspace link. Lyrics also included.

Nice recording Stan. The mix is well balanced, guitars sound nice and vocals sit at about right level in the remix (didn't hear the first mix).
From a song perspective, it seems a bit long to me too. The Chorus is worth repeating, but I wouldn't have repeated V1. Instead I might have tried the order V1 - C - V2 - guitar solo (to chorus chords) - C - then C again, with a fade out.
Keep up the good work.

I'm streaming the MySpace link.
I'm not sure, but it sounds like the remix has a bit of a sonic hole in the middle. It might be the vocals coming through stronger and keeping the backing farther back in the stream. The vocals are better, but the backing vocals either aren't cutting, or they're gone altogether. There's a frequency in the vocal register that's coming across as shrill (probably too much emphasis there). Drums are still present, but I don't think I would have backed them off. I'd have to play around and live with the mix for awhile to really get a feel for how it should be. This is okay, but the original mix might have been slightly better in some ways. We're at one of those "a hair here or a hair there" moments.

Mike, You are right. Instead of trying to rush this out, I'm going to see if I can bring out more in the song. It's all there but not mixed at the correct EQ & track levels.
Thanks again, Stan
