Hey guys, I hope all is well with you all. Wow I'm done my first year of studies! I hope my next year has less drama... Its was hard to keep up for while there... Anywho Now that it's over I get to bum around for a bit lol... Here is the result of a jazzy little piano thing I made up while at school... I recorded it and the I just started singing over it and this was the result. It is quite interesting to me, I do alot of strange parrellel 5ths and stuff in the vocal harmony so at times its quite interesting, to me anyway lol It's called Sincere Design and its on my page just follow my link there... Talk to you guys in a bit, Cameron

Cam, what did they teach you in theory about parallel fifths? Hmm? They're called 'part-writing rules' for a reason, y'know...
Great into with the backwards sound, and very atmospheric. I like the structure, it's sort of like the 'typical' Cam song, but without the drums & guitar to bang into the choruses. This is a very delicate, experimental piece, and I like it a lot. I would have liked a more definitive ending, but that's the only real complaint (okay, and the parallel fifths).
When are you going to do a CD like Stan? Hope you're doing okay these days. Always good to hear from you!

Hey Mike The Parrallel fifths are on purpose. lol I learned about all that and I think it sucks ( I like freedom of expression) lol, I understand the purpose and use it alot but in this piece I wanted it to sound strange and thus I liked the sound of the fifths so I aint changing it lol This isn't chorale Writing. Bach would've had a fit eh heh. Not something I will make a habit of haha Yeah that intro was pretty cool and really connected the spacy atmosphere thing like you said. Ahh the CD, everyone asks about that lol. K Hopefully this year as I am in the recording program, I will get my skills up to where I want them. During this time I want to get a drummer to work with, (shouldn't be too hard it's a school of music) and record some real drums for the songs. Ohh Yeah and I want to select the songs that I will use for the Album... So I have a pretty good Idea of which ones already but feel free to suggest some. So hopefully another year or two at most... This paragragh is a bit of a mess but you get the idea I'm sure. It's gonna be alot of work. But I wanna do it right... Things are getting better I'm getting the writing bug again, when school ended I didn't want to look a music again lol... I had to decompress my brain from everything you know lol. Thanks again, Cameron

Hey, let me tell you something about theory: Theory at its best describes what's going on, but it doesn't dictate. It's built around what sounds 'right' to our ears (based on our tradition of western music), but you're perfectly free to follow what sounds right to you. I'm no fan of 12-tone music, but it's a logical outgrowth of previous styles.
Glad you're doing okay. As for the CD, you write 'em, you pick 'em. We'll love it.

Yeah I'm no fan of 12 tone either, I mean it's neat to theoretically but not something I could listen too in the car lol. I don't think there is whole lot more that can be done with 12 tone any way.
It's like listening to mathematics.
I'm with you Mike.

Cam,
Chiming in late on this one as I've been away on business.
I don't particularly like the backwards recording stuff. I don't think it fits with the rest, which is very very nice -- so pleasant to listen to. Being uneducated in theory, I have no clue what parallel 5ths are, but when I get back off this business trip I'm going to make it a point look that up and listen again to see if I can identify how you used them. Gosh i wish I could write stuff like this.

How did I miss this post? Anyway, I really like your busier/rock stuff but this was a pretty piece and I enjoyed it too. A drummer sounds like a must for making a CD. The MIDI pattern stuff started getting old. I'm hoping to get me a good drum machine this year. A Cam-CD sounds like something I'm really looking forward to. I want to hear more of your songs! Also a Roger... Rob CD? Like Tom, don't really know anything about music theory period. As for parallel 5ths? I was invisoning 2 wineos sitting next to each other on a curb and chugging their bottles at the same time. Bad joke I know.
