I wrote a new Christian song today and the effects steer a little towards the dark side or an alternative sound. The MP3 sounds better if you download it and play it on your own computer vs. going through the Myspace player. Anyway, it's out there at: www.hisholyspace.com/stangulleyLike to hear your comments. Thanks, Stan

The guitars here are the high point of this tune. I really like the riff they play between (and in) the verses, and the solo is confident and relaxed, even with lots of power. Altho there's a strange transition towards the end of the solo. Overall, the song seems to have a curious laid-back feel to it, coming from a position of strength. I'm not sure how that ties in with the lyrics, but just on the basis of the music, it's good to hear.
What needs reworked however, is the drum track. The basic beat is okay, but nearly all the tom fills are too busy and distracting. A little less John Bonham and a little more Charlie Watts.

Thanks Mike for your drum suggestion. I'll look in to it. I think I've almost exhausted the 2488 patterns and they all seem way too familiar these days.
Cam recently suggested "EZ Drummer" which I'm actually considering. The 2488 pattern used was listed as heavy metal... so maybe look for a 60-70s rock pattern instead.

Couldn't get to it through myspace -- my workplace blocks the whole site -- but was able to download the MP3 from soundclick.
A good effort I think. I'm with Mike on liking the guitars, especially between the verses, and in fact would let 'em ring out that way through more of the song -- to me the left and right parts fit together more nicely that way. Nice solo too -- the extended chord progression behind it is a little out of the ordinary I guess, but not uncomfortably so. The mix sounds good to me.

Thanks Tom for giving it a try... I've remixed/mastered this song and do feel more comfortable with it. Try this link: www.hisholyspace.com/stangulley instead of myspace, or my Christian SC link below. Thanks, Stan

Stan,
Believe it or not, that link is blocked as a site containing "Personals and Dating". Talk about artificial stupidity, huh?. Oh well, I'll give it a try at home sometime later.
