Hey
I had do a demo for another song at school, so I thought I'd combine it with another technology assignment, in which we had to make our own sample and use the Garritan library. All done in Kontact... So yeah I sampled my voice, now that is hard to do... I'm thinking about doing some more work on it. SOme of them get pretty funny pitch shifted... THe orchestra on the other hand is incredible! I have to buy this when I get some money... There just way to much to buy but any way!
The tune is called Cognitive Vacuum and I can safely say I've done nothing like it before... THe assignment was to write something, atmosheric and just sort of odd, she said that using weird scales would help... THis seems to me just be a lydian sort of thing with a bunch of diminished chords in the chorus...
ANyway love to know what ya''l think, I don't think I'm done with this yet at all... I may work on the samples and maybe redo the Harmony Vox...
Very hard to sing intune for some reason...
Links in the Signature
Thanks Cameron

Wow! Cognitive Vacuum is a great piece! It calls to mind the orchestral rock feel of the group Dream Theater and Muse. Excellent. Ethereal. Keep up the good work. :-)

Well, I mentioned the 'typical Cam formula' last time, and while the structure of this one is very straightforward, the arrangement takes it into a whole other sphere. It's pretty darn good, I must say. I would have found it hard to resist FX-ing up the spoken lines at the end of each verse, and a long slow fade would have been more to my liking than an ending, but those minor points don't detract from the fact that it's good to see you step outside your comfort zone. It reminds me very much of the experimental bonus tracks McCartney does (like the bonus tracks to his last album). Thinking back to some of your earlier work, it's clear to see the progress made. This is solid, mature work, even if you think of it only as 'this week's assignment'.
Good job, Cam.

Reminds of the Sargent Pepper era (Strawberry Fields, unreal), but maybe I need to quit thinking Beatles for a while . I love what you continue to come up with. Stan

Hey you Guys Mike thanks for the kind words, you know it was an assignment but I try very hard to write something I like not just to get by... Yeah you know I think with out the forum and the PS5 I wouldn't have progressed like this as a writer and producer. There was some rapid progress then not so, it's interesting how progress is made... So yeah got to thank you guys for helping me make that progress... Girl, Stan Thanks so much, being compared to Dream Theatre and The Beatles is crazy lol, but a compliment for sure! Cameron

Cam, Don't be afraid to always try new things. Don't be afraid to go back to the older things that work for you. Your continued progress has been fun to observe over the past few years, and I haven't noticed any steps back. I guess I have Mike to blame as well for making this stuff too much fun. W/O this forum my blue box would have been lost and my interest in recording would've most likely been history. Now I have something to do when I retire in a few years.
