www.sendspace.com/file/tx6mgcHere's the song I was working on when I had CF card issues. It's called Modern Day Dorothy. I was able to save my bounced combo of piano, bass, and drums on T1 and my guitar track (T2). All I had to do was redo vocals. And I think I figured out how to add reverb... finally! ha! I am happy with this song. It's uptempo, has some interesting harmony intervals, a key change, and even an a capella part! If I had another track, I would have added a little light lead guitar or something extra on the small instrumental parts, but considering it's just a demo, I'm a happy little camper. No need to overcook the mix. I'm going to post it on MySpace, but want to first take a cool pic of these kicking red "ruby slippers" I have to go with the song... Am thinking artsy thoughts. Gosh, I wish I had 36 hours to my day!!!!!!! Good day, gentlemen.

Congratulations, GF !
This song is absolute international quality. A very fine composition, well sung, well played and well recorded & mixed.
You have become my number one exemple of still undiscovered talent ; a diamond still hidden, but soon to be discovered.
I think it is time for you to step forward and go for a pro deal with a good record company. They would be fools not to realise your musical and commercial potential.

Merci beaucoup, Chris! Wow! Your kind words made me cry! I am very humbled. I feel like any musical skill I my have is a gift from my parents and my friends who patiently support and teach me.... and tolerate me asking questions like 'Why is my CF card screaming at me today?!' It's like Isaac Newton said.... "If I have seen further it is by standing on ye shoulders of Giants." Thanks to all of you who make this possible.

GF,
Please believe me : this is not just being kind to each other as PS5 friends and all, but it's my honest opinion : unless there is or would be some personal reason not to do it, you have to go for it ! Even if succes is never guaranteed (as you know), you have the talent and the potential, so do not hesitate.
And be not too humble, GF. It is not we who make that possible, it's you !
Chris

Am thinking artsy thoughts. Gosh, I wish I had 36 hours to my day!!!!!!! And I wish I had your ability to crank out such good stuff. I suppose there is always room for improvement in anything, but I am amazed not only by your talent and the diversity of your writing and performing, but also by what you have been able to accomplish in such a short time within the limitations of the PS5. This tune is my favorite of yours so far, and everything about it sounds great to me! You do indeed have a special gift for music that deserves to be "discovered". Tom

I'm at work so I can't listen yet, but it certainly sounds like it's going to be a great song. I have to agree that you have a special talent and the more that talent is used the stronger it will become. Unfortunately, the music industry seldom rewards talent and focuses more on looks and presentation... not like the old Janis days. But, you did say you were an arobics instructor so hey...
All semi-sarcastic comments aside, I would like to see you release a TBD commercial CD (like at CDBaby) just to see how people react. It is a fun experience in itself. Of course, I'm not mind-reading anything into it, just a suggestion.
I'm looking forward to the listen. I agree with both the above comments that your music needs to be out there. Thanks, Stan

The song's, lyrics, and presentation are all really good. I like the song as a whole. I'm not saying this to be mean but to help., The one thing that keeps distracting me in most of your music is the "siblant sounds" "sss" sounds in your vocal tracks. With an alto female voice as good as yours it makes them even more apparent. I've suggested this before but I would use the Desser FX2 while I was recording vocals (along with a pop screen that you are probably already using), and then your voice would come out sounding like an angel.

Good suggestion. I thought using a windscreen/ pop filter would help, but I'll try the FX2 de-esser. I'm spoiled for using the moody effect so the vocal doesn't sound so stark in the headphones, but now that I think I've figured out the reverb, I can just soften things up at that stage.

Man, your voice is too good to have a minor distraction. Your EQs and mixes have always been well-balanced so this is really the only negative thing that might stand out to some listeners. And if you are already 96% of the way there then why not? Meanwhile, someone could light a cherry bomb right in the middle of one of my songs and I doubt if anyone would notice. P.S. - the pop filter gets rid of the Ps not the Ss

I'm listening to the MySpace mix, which is a little muddy in my phones. Nice tune, with a catchy melody. Mix is not bad; I know you're working with the restraint of squeezing everything into four tracks. For the most part you've pulled it off. Good work for someone who has been tossed into the deep end of multitracking for only a few months.

So, how does one wash away the "mud." I do hear it, too. I simply don't know how to fix it.

If MySpace is adding it, there's little you can do. If you're hearing it in the PS5, fiddle around with the EQ. See what the tracks look like around 400Hz to 1KHz. Often it's having two things boosted around the same frequency, such as bass and piano (left hand).

I have noticed that Myspace player compression does add and sometimes exagurate sounds to a point of running things together. This has happened to me on several occasions.
Overall, I like Sound Click's streaming much better because even though it changes the sound, it usually doesn't mess it up.
