www.sendspace.com/file/iqbj9lHi fellas! I'm sending out the tracks of my latest GF creation titled "Light of the Moon." This is the song I was referring to on that panning thread. I haven't burned the mp3 yet. Instead, I thought I might ask if anyone would want to have a listen to the reverb and panning settings I chose and let me know what you think. I am REALLY, REALLY, REALLY excited about this song for a multitude of reasons. It's simple, but it's thus far my favorite creation, and I'm really happy with the way the guitar and vocals came out, and it was just simply a joy to sing!!! It makes me happy just humming it! The faders, as I have listened to it are set as follows: T1 and T2: middle line of slider is even with bottom of three quarter mark. T3: top of slider is even with last notch (main vocal) T4: top of slider is even with second to last mark I value your opinions and expertise so much, so thank you in advance for having a listen!

Wow, a very nice song, GF. In my opinion, the reverb and panning settings are OK, but some would no doubt put some more reverb on the vocals, and some would pan the harmony vocals wider. It's all a matter of personal preference. As to the volume (the sliders) mix : here, I would put a little more emphasis on the guitar (and thus, a little less on the vocal harmony), but again, that is only a matter of personal preference. I did a little mix to show you what I mean (with your exact EQ, reverb and pan settings) : www.sendspace.com/file/r9hhi2www.sendspace.com/file/4bnfp0(one file being an MP3, the other is the same file in WAV-format) The volume sliders in this mix were : T1 : middle of slider = middle of 3/4 mark T2 : middle of slider = 7th mark T3 : middle of slider = just above 3/4 mark T4 : middle of slider = just under 3/4 mark (and by the way, this was mixed using Cambridge Soundworks near-field monitors) I can imagine that you and others might prefer less pronounced guitar, but this is how I would mix it if I had to (which I don't). Again, a very nice song, GF : I like it a lot. Chris

Merci, Chris. That sounds nice! I have the reverb return level on 5, I think. And I'm pretty sure I put the other settings on what the manual would describe as a "large hall." What numbers would you set it on? And would you put harmonies out around the 40ish settings?

Yes, your return level is 5 (Time 2.7 - PreDly 49 - HiCut 50 - Density 75 - Attack 36), and that is not much different from how I would set it.
As to the PAN : I would set
T1 : L5 T2 : L38 T3 : R5 T4 : R38
Your T1 & T3 at C is the usual way to do it, but I like to widen even the center pans a little, so... Try it out, GF, you'll see what I mean.
Your T2 and T4 settings at 20 are OK, but there again, I like to widen things a bit more.
As I said before : it's all a matter of personal preference, really.

GF, You are getting better at knowing what you want in your songs and achieving it. I thought the mix sounds good and the lead vocals were out front of the harmony where they belong. Also, the harsher sounds I was hearing on some of your earlier vocal tracks are gone. They are smoothed out, and pleasing. I have to agree with you that this is your best so far. Stan

Critical comments: Very good! The guitar might be a hair's breadth too hot in relation to the vocals, but it's a close thing. I'm unsure about how the ending is working out, so I may listen to it a few more times and see if I either change my mind or suggest a different way to do it. The jury is still out regarding that.
Personal comments: I started this forum back in 2003 because TASCAM was going to shut down their own BBS, and I was tipped off before it happened. I was having so much fun with the PS5 that I wasn't ready to isolate myself from all the other fun people doing the same thing. Later I realized that with my background in retail, I'm addicted to answering questions. Over the past five years, I've also discovered another aspect of the experience: helping talent shine. It is immensely satisfying to watch someone show up, and stick around, getting better and better. I take no credit other than offering a suggestion here and there, as do many others. But oh boy I love watching people improve. Stan is an obvious example, and of course Cameron, as well as others.
Now we're all watching a new light shine.

I am completely choked up and a blubbering teary mess. Thank you all for your support and kindness. All of you are great lights shining for me! Today was an awesomely fun day. Between 5pm yesterday and right now, 195 people have listened in on my new song and the messages have poured in!! How weird!! Ironically, it's been my simplest song, but I knew when I was singing it, it just felt good, like a really cozy sweater. It feels surreal to have people enjoy something with me like this. It's a unique feeling, and I don't know how else to express the joy except to correlate it to the feeling I get when I'm laughing with my sisters and sharing a good time with them. But, don't worry, it's not getting to my head! haha!! I've still got LOTS of work to do, and I only do this for personal satisfaction and fun. For me, the process is every bit as fun as the product. I've just never had so much fun working at something!!!! Oh, if only the day were 36 hours long to do more!!

Oh...and Mike, you are too humble! You can take LOTS of credit for helping us on this journey. My music would still be stuck in my house if not for your help. Instead, tonight I lay my head on the pillow knowing that people in England, France, Poland, Italy, Australia, the US, and The Phillipines are listening in. What an amazing feeling...all thanks to your guidance and coaching on how to use the magic box...
....and of course to all the other "professors" out there who have answered my endless questions! I think I have an embarrassing number of questions posted, and no one has ever made me feel dumb asking them! I'm in the mood to pop a champagne cork. Too bad you guys aren't here so we could celebrate together!

GF, I especially like your "Round & Round & Round" vocal part, it really does sound magical and your lyrics are unique (which I always like). Hold onto this one if you ever decide to release a CD or put on ITunes. It is really cool!
