So excited about this tune! Will be recording it in a studio with an authentic cajun fiddler!!! There's an instrumental after verse 2 of me playing guitar, but there will be a lovely fiddle solo there. I'm hoping to do a few things with this tune; maybe even master a completely instrumental version with the fiddle as the lead.... I wrote this one for my sisters and in homage to my Louisiana/ French heritage and all the strong women in my life. www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_13779267

Very nice Lisa! and I really liked your lyrics. I guess the trick is, when you have this much to say in a song, slow down pronunciation just a hair so that every word can be understood well. Also, doubling on both the back and front vocals seemed a little overcooked... I say that because to me focusing on the song's meaning is the primary part of this song.
As always, beautifully done. I wouldn't be afraid to change it around a little vocally to really catch the magic because this song is a very good one with much potential.
BTW I posted this out to a private forum on FB (of mostly women) and they fell in love with it.
I bet the finished product is gonna be Fantastic! Stan

Thanks, Stan. I'm really looking forward to working with someone professional on this one for the very reasons you mention. I have the concept and the basic bones of the song, but I know that it can be even better with the right production and obviously the right engineering. Actually, the front and back vocals aren't doubled, so it must be the effect on them that's making it sound that way. There's a slight bit of flange (obviously) on the guitar and also on the "chant" part; and the chant is doubled because in the end product, I will likely have my sisters sing with me on those, and I wanted the feeling of a group of women singing together on the demo. The melody is single and center with reverb, and the harmonies are left and right of center with reverb and EQing to tone them down. The oohs and ahhs are heavily reverbed in an attempt to push them back more, but this is where I really need the help of an engineer. Since my songs are very much vocally driven, it's paramount that the vocals are recorded well so they don't compete with each other. When you say "slow the vocals down," do you mean slow the tempo of the song down overall or articulate more precisely? Just curious. Really appreciate your feedback, and thanks so much for sharing it with your friends. I played it for a woman in my class yesterday, and she cried! She said it really resonated with her. I felt terrible for making her weep, but on the other hand, I was honored that she would have been so moved by the lyrics...even in such humble demo form!

By doubling you are right... after listening to the verses again and then into the harmony parts there is a bit too much reverb for me.. maybe that was what I was catching on the first listen. I don't know if it was just my ears but some of the words were a little hard to pick out... most weren't.. so I wasn't talking about tempo.. just maybe exagurating a couple of the words that might be hard for someone to make out so that they sit better in that phrasing. If you think they are OK then it was probably just me again. I know you will get this one just the way you want it. I have no doubts. PS -- dont feel bad about making women cry... I do it all the time .. hheeee. Good luck.

Is it on one of the other sites? For some reason I'm getting horrendous skipping/delay with reverbnation.

ha! Busy mode! Is there another? I'm not sure if Stan's link worked for you, because all my sites (FB and my GF site) are connected with the Band App from Reverbnation; so if that one was amiss, they are likely all amiss. I'll check on that. Let me know if you ever got it to work. If not, I can just send you the MP3 file. Thanks in advance for listening. :-) www.girl-friday-music.com

Thanks Stan, that link worked (eventually). I know there are a lot of people who wish their finished tracks would sound as good as this demo. I don't hear much wrong with it. Can you produce my next album?

I too was having to wait on songs on the playlist to load and then finally the song will eventually take off and play... Seems to be a lot of hit or miss over there. Maybe the site is becoming really popular and the bandwidth is getting eaten up.
I really like soundcloud.com now even though Ill always be linked to Soundclick just because it is a very dependable site as well. But, Soundcloud will ID where in the world that your music is getting played, and sometimes I seem to have pretty good luck in the UK, Ukraine and Canada areas. Plus, soundcloud is over in the UK where Mike can probably always get an excellent response.
I really think this song is going to be one your best songs ever, so Lisa, Im sure you are feeling that by now. Always wishing you the very best with your songs and thx for sharing.
