I did a little Flip video of this ballad a few years back but decided to record another ballad before starting back to work. Then I started thinking about some of the old friends I lost to heroin and got really sad. soundcloud.com/theirishtexan/me-and-baby-jane

Strictly as a recording, the vocal has a boxy sound that might be too much reverb, and maybe some EQ issues. The guitar is well-played and might benefit from just a touch more low end to balance out the treble.
However, as an experience, the emotion in your voice transcends any deficits in the mechanical aspects of simply capturing sound. I'm not ashamed to say that by the end, I was welling up a bit in response to the naked sadness of your singing. I'd like to think I know a little bit about the process of recording music. When you're doing the vocal for the eighth or fifteenth time, your focus is on timing, pitch, breath control, etc. You just want to get the @#$% thing done properly. So when a little real feeling creeps in, it's almost an afterthought (or a surprise). It winds up being a precious thing.
Good job Stan; really good.

Thanks Mike, I keep some of the reverb in the vocals but not as much, and cut back on the acoustic highs while increasing the lows.
Thanks for the tip.

Very nice Stan. You have a real talent for delivering authentic and emotionally expressive performances. Like Mike said this is not a small feat. Love hearing you acoustic playing too. Thanks for sharing this Stan.
