I really rocked out the drums on this one. I'm liking this mix better. Funny what some tweaks can do to a remix (especially with drums)

I've been telling you for years - rolls and fills, rolls and fills. It does make a difference.
I like the strings as well, but I'd suggest leaving them out of the first verse, to build a sense of drama and add dynamics. The only other suggestion I'd put forward is to examine the EQ settings to make sure there isn't too much boost across the board in the midrange area. It seems a bit crowded; sometimes once you finish working on the guitars, vocals, drums, etc. separately, you may not notice something like +4 around 3-4KHz or so on everything (as an example).
Otherwise, I think Aldean should send you out on tour and stay home himself.

Thanks Mike for your suggestions! I followed your instructions and cleaned up some of the pauses in a few of the drum sections. I think it feels & sounds more refined. Bass track is still midi that was generated from Band in a Box so it really doesn't compliment or add much to the song at all.

You should be able to hear how much more 'open' the mix has become; it's not 'cluttered' sonically like it was. Less ear fatigue and everything cuts through better. The bass is like soggy cardboard, I agree. If you want to tweak the mix any further, I'd bring the vocal up just a 'teeny-tiny' bit.

Mike if you are up for mainly Am, C, F, Em, Am, C, F, G bass action I could sure use it. I could send you the guitar or midi chords that I used if you are up for it! Otherwise, I understand. I'll look into the vocals and tweak a little more. And, thanks once again, for your insight and help.

Send me the stuff and I'll see what I can do. It's never a question of not wanting to contribute to my friends and helping out, it's just a matter of finding the time to get everything set up and then being physically/mentally ready to play. Anymore there's always either something else that needs done, or the hands aren't up to the job, etc. (carpal tunnel issues with the fretting hand, sore shoulder/lack of mobility in the picking arm). We just had company last weekend, and now Thanksgiving/no school this week.
My point is not to make excuses, but so you'll know it's not like I don't want to play more parts when I can.

You are always appreciated Mike! I have slight carpal tunnel of my non-fretting hand which is the one I use for mouse movement on the computer. It's mainly inside the forearm where I'm feeling irritating pain. So, I can really related to how frustrating and hard that would be. www.countrytabs.com/tablature/Jason_Aldean/Just_Gettin_Started_Chord_66564/Let me know what kind of mix you want to record against and I'll post it (which tracks to eliminate in the mix) Thanks!

All I need (obviously) is the bass out. Drums, guitars and vocal are the main things to have.

Cool track Stan, Must have done good on the remixing. Like Mike said nice and open sounding. Totally get why'd you want Mike on this it will bump this up another level. Definitely a different treatment for a bass part. I sure when Mike gets on here it will fit into the feel of the track better.
Sorry I didn't get listening sooner. I've been in this musical funk for a bit here plus have had a brutal head n throat cold that I am just getting over now... Definitely looking forward to hearing Mike on this. I have Carpel tunnel issues as well, a curse it is, I can't play guitar nearly as much as I'd like without getting a lot of numbness. I think I have gravitated to more piano/keyboards in my tracks because of it, piano is much easier on my hands...

Cameron, Thanks for listening to it and I really appreciate it. You are too young to already be getting the C.T. syndrome!!! I hope you can get back 100% into your music again. You are too talented not to.
I might play around with an intro part on this song over the weekend.
Thanks again for your support and listening. Stan

Well, here's a track to try: we.tl/KNKow5bDjPLet me know (quickly) if you don't like the tone, and I'll try it again with a different bass (this is the '78 Jazz). Then I can disassemble the gear again and put it away. The family want the tree up ASAP.

OK Mike. I've downloaded and will put into the mix tonight. I'll let you know probably tonight. I really can't see ever rejecting one of your bass tracks (much better than I could ever do).
Thanks again Mike for your time on this. Stan
