GF, I upgraded to the newest Flash Player recently (9.0.124.0) Maybe it needs the older one to function properly... it could be several things such as having anti-virus settings that aren't compatible with some plugins used inside your web page. Flash Players and slide shows use a lot of bandwidth which can sometimes take minutes to fully start executing. I've seen so many overloaded pages on Myspace that I don't even bother with anymore because it takes too long for the page to load and come up.
As Chris suggests, maybe back it up for now. I believe in keeping things as light-weight as possible. People are a lot more interested in fast accessible content than Flashy looks, and if the page is not operable at all for extended lengths of time people won't bother coming back (which I know is not what you want)
Whatever it is if its has something to do with web pages it depends on web browsers used (not based on OS) If it is an error in the HTML, such as an unmatched open/close tag, then it can definitely disable navigation features in the page, so I'd make sure that your HTML page has the correct syntax. I would expect the problem to be more wide-spread where everyone was experiencing the same thing. But you have guranteed that this is not the case so it probably boils down to security software or issues installed on particular computers.
Troubleshooting is very hard because you would need multiple PCs configured differently to track it down. Myspace might help but that is usually a deadend.

Fellas! We might have a diagnosis! Mike looked into the issue. He observed that with Firefox, he had no problems accessing anything, but with IE6, the first song would play, but that was that. You couldn't select songs or see the videos. Can you try this out to see if we have a solution? I'm sorry to be such a bother. I really do appreciate your help!

I run out of options here : not that I am Bill Gates' best friend, but for several reasons (homebanking and other stuff), I have to stay with Internet Explorer.
Having said that, GF, don't you think that most people use IE anyway ?
Over here they do, that's for sure.
If the "solution" would be that only those people using Mozilla Firefox have access to your webpage, I'm afraid that my music pals over here (your first french fans !) are going to be cut off from the Texas Lady's new videos and songs. They won't be pleased.
So this is a request from France (and it's official and all) : please reconsider, GF.

Oh no! I absolutely am going to change things! You are absolutely right. There's no way I'm going to cut off half my friends on account of their browser choice or some silly page design! I'm just glad to know what the problem is. Before I change back, I have left a message with the company whose design I used to see if there's any encoding I can change to eliminate the problem and include everyone. If not, I am MOST certainly changing to something that both browsers can use. It's absurd to think any other way! This is about the music! But I'm not gonna lie. I think the page design is SUPER cute, and I wish there was a way to keep it. Like I told Mike...I'm a girl! Granted, those "over-designed" pages annoy the heck out of me and are too cluttered. That's why I liked this one. It was simple and sweet and something about the little sun rays and the clouds and that shade of blue just made me happy looking at it!! haha! Funny thing about this fiasco is I am up to 173 plays today! That's never happened! It's crazy. People have been writing in lamenting that they can't navigate and have had their friends drop in to see if they could help! haha!! It's like a train wreck, I guess. People just need to come by and look! At any rate, it made me smile to think that people would be sad if they couldn't visit anymore. It's the little things in life..... Kudos to Dr. Mike for his swift diagnosis!!! :-)

A better question might be which browser and version does GF have?
Browser setting and incompatibilites are very common especially where there's a lot of Javascript, which in GF's page case there is. This is because way back in 1998 Microsoft decided to use their own versions of Javscript objects vs. Netscape predefined ones. This made it tough on Web developers to support multiple browsers and versions of browsers because the Javascript language was maturing so fast. This issue hasn't gotten a lot worse but it still remains even after 10 years.
In the commercial world there are usually 2 choices to avoid these headaches: either tell the customer which browser and version to use, or prohibit or limit the use of Javascript which is client-side (user's machine) execution. GF's page is not a rare situation and I know the pages to stay away from (the ones cluttered with too much junk usually is a good indicator of lots of Javascript behind the page functionality.
I'm glad Mike found this out for you. At least you know where to take it for here which is probably Chris' original suggestion. The reason being if IE 6 and 7 are in question (mine is IE 6) then you are blocking most of the internet users not part of them. P.S. Firefox and Netscape share the same blood line. Microsoft however, decided to go their own direction.
Probably your number of plays have increased because your player is still playing songs but none of the navigation buttons or links work. You can verify this by seeing which song has increased in plays; my guess is only your first one.
Best of luck.

I have IE7 and Firefox on my computer, but I always use Firefox. I set up my page using Firefox, and I wonder if I had set it up in IE7 if the problem would exist. I suppose I could experiment. I went to someone's page who used the same web designer www.myprettyms.com, and I was able to navigate her page in either browser. She just has a personal site, it's not a band page, so there's no mp3 player, but she has a few little applications running, too. Go figure. I even wondered if it could be the slide show I put up that might be causing problems. I added it on the same day I designed the new page.... Tomorrow if I get more time, I'll tool around with it. Tonight, I'm done for! My first and third (Light of the Moon) songs took the biggest jumps in numbers today, but all of them went up significantly, and my videos took a huge leap. Again, I think it was the train wreck factor. Those who could navigate the sight were probably punching around everything to see if it worked. Who knows.... All I know is I adore my French fans, and I shall not let them down!! :-) tee hee GF will get this fixed. Good thing I enjoy a good mystery. Guess 8-8-08 was a funny day for me.

Again, I wouldn't rule out a script logic error like possibly an unclosed tag or some out of seq. code. The Firefox interpreter is completely different than Microsoft IE, and as I remember, more forgiving about HTML syntax. That would be a good guess since I've seen quite a few page layouts that are almost identical to yours and their NAV links work fine. These types of mysteries are almost always code related and make sense once the bug is found. 08/10/2008:I know this is very frustrating for you GF so hang in there and maybe start from the beginning & try again vs. working backwards. I've never messed with Myspace page designs before (since the site is sluggish enough IMO). But I did run Tidy against your HTML for verification and it didn't flag an error. Web stuff is time consuming and weekends are too short to go permanently cross-eyed. Also by logging in and expanding "Friend Updates to ALL" in my own profile I get links to every page change of any friend so all I need to do is click & go there... That would be the easiest way to see new videos etc... so actually no one is being blocked from viewing your new stuff.

Yes, because she removed the skin, which I think was the problem all along.

O my, I had not even noticed that it was removed. I must be one of the many people looking at the content, rather than the presentation.

Ha!! You guys are such GUYS! And that's why I adore you. Thanks for all your support and help! ;D Yes, I shed my skin. Internet Explorer didn't want to play well with that CSS code in the cute "skin," so it had to go. After all, NOTHING is worth losing my French fans! haha!! But if I find a "skin" that works and isn't cluttered, goofy, and ridiculous, I might just be a total female and want it all....content and presentation! Tomorrow is open mic nite!! I'm singing 4 covers and a Beatles cover with this guy I met at the last open mic nite. I will try to get some video so you guys can "be there" too! I also have two new songs to record and hope to re-record two others I've "tweaked." So much fun....so little time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Way to go GF! I'm sure you'll get another good skin to work. I like your artistic abilities and taste. Must be the small amount of Cajan somewhere down deep within my DNA. I bet Dr. House would know.

HA!!! GEAUX CAJUNS!!! Well, I found some REALLY cool flowers that put me in the right zen state with color and form! hahah!! Check 'em out. I opened my page in BOTH IE and Firefox and it seemed to work either way this time, so Chris, tell my French fans we are SO up and running! I ADORE the visual arts. I'm the geek in the museums with the journal standing in front of the paintings and sculptures with tears streaming down my face. I also cry at ballets. I am a mess. I wrote a funny blog to commemorate my "skin" hoopla if anyone wants to read my attempt at comedy. Have a great day! ;D
